If you are gay, now is time to waltz into your walk-in closet and make a choice. You can dust off your boxing gloves and prepare to fight for your rights or, you can stay silent and redecorate your closet because this is the lonely, miserable space you may inhabit in the near future. I've been fighting for equality since 1988, and this is the first time I believe we are going backwards and actually losing the battle.
Larry Cramer is an a-hole who is a radical loonie and hurts the movement!

You are so wrong about Kramer. He has done more for the movement than anyone. He and Wayen are right on target.

The problem of the gay community & The Democratic Party are similar: secular responses to religious oppression will fail. We need a Mel White on steroids a John Bolton who can invoke "God" for us then appeal to justice/fairness on the secular side, unless you can somehow get the non-religious to get off their stupid dead asses & vote. Otherwise, we go the way of the gays & jews in The Weimar Republic: it can happen here; perhaps it already is. Bruce Bawer moved out of the country: is that the necessary option?
Just as young blacks today have no idea what life under Jim Crow was REALLY like, young gays who have no recollection of the world before the 1970s have no inkling as to how difficult and fearful it really was to be homosexual. It wasnt even talked about and when someone mentioned THAT subject it was done in whispers. I was 14 at the time of the STonewall riots and remember well the world before that watershed event. ALL GLBT people, but especially the younger ones, need to get off of our complacent butts and start FIGHTING BACK again! Americans had no qualms about putting Japanese citizens into concentration camps at the start of WWII, I have no doubt whatsoever that if the christo-facist zombies totally had their way, we would also be rounded up and imprisoned. But, of course, as the Jews said in 1930s Germany, 'such a thing could never happen here in the land of Beethoven, Schiller and Goethe!' Gary in NJ

You're so right, Wayne. In fact, you're freaky-scary right. I've been trying to tell this to all the gay people I know, and most of them are too complacent or too hopeful to do anything about it. They don't see what's going on. Kramer does have a history of "screaming", I suppose, but the gay community should be thankful that someone so passionate is willing to "scream" so loud and so often. --JKM

This is one of the most important articles I have read in a long time. Even though I'm from Canada, I believe that similar treatment is around the corner for us if our government falls and the conservatives win the election. I have told all of my friends what is going on in the US and the lack of awareness is astounding, many people do not have a clue about what is happening and they should because it affects all of us. I challenged the Canadian version of Focus on the Family for a full page ad they took out in the National Post on gay rights and marriage and the reply was scary, they are a mirror image of that dangerous organization and are very well funded. The problem with the gay community is that we are scattered all over the place in all walks of life and unity is sorely missing, but we'd better organize quickly because there is alot at stake and don't kid ourselves, sodomy laws are just around the corner folks if we don't fight back and loud and hard. Let's see some action folks! Tim W.
