Spain, by a vote of 187-147, has become the fourth country in the world to give equal marriage rights to same-sex couples. The other nations are the Netherlands, Canada and Belgium.
In Canada, the Liberals' controversial same-sex marriage legislation passed final reading in the House of Commons Tuesday. It is expected to become law before the end of July.
Meanwhile, in the last few weeks, the United States has debated creationism in the classroom, a marriage amendment to write gay people out of the Constitution, a flag burning Constitutional Amendment and whether ostentatious displays of the 10 Commandments can be shoved down peoples' throats in public, taxpayer financed settings. It is embarrassing to see enlightened nations move forward, while we rehash the debates of the Dark Ages.
Is it not time for America to wake up and take back our nation from right wing extremists? All they have brought America is ignorance, poverty, war and deficits. The right wing is terrible for this country and must be defeated, so America can again lead the way in freedom and liberty. In the meantime, let's proudly celebrate the advances made in Spain and Canada.
Show your support for these countries by taking a vacation and spending lots of money. You know that $1,000 contribution you were thinking of giving to your Congressman who won't support the freedom to marry? Instead, use it to buy a plane ticket to Madrid or Montreal. Let's reward our friends. I've been to both countries and they are beautiful, and lot's of fun!

Joe, moral values according to whom???At the moment America is not beautiful, it is a mess thanks to President Bush and right wing christians (with a small c). Canada and Spain are leading the way, it is often said that a nation's integrity lies in how minorities are treated. All Bush wants to do is reward the rich, eliminate the middle class and shun the poor. Around the world, innocent Americans are disliked because of Bush. There's moral values for ya. Also, take a hike with the sinner BS, it is getting very old. Tim W

Joe from san Jose,
You and I have a very different idea of what moral values are. Jesus would condemn the GOP today because they are war mongers, they favor the rich over the poor, and they hurt minorities. If Jesus were alive today the radical religious right in America, including conservative catholics would crucify him.
Just like the President of Spain said - you can not stop freedom.
The radical religious fundamentalists in this Country will soon be seen BY EVERYBODY for exactly what they are - bigots. These are the same people who said that the world would come to an end if Black people and White people were allowed to get married. These are the same people who argue vehemently in favor of Slavery. These are the same people who persecuted people during the inquisition. These are the same people who create wars based on their religious beliefs.
Kudos to Spain for getting out from under the yoke of the catholic church, now they just need to make bull fighting illegal and then i'd consider going there.
And Joe, too bad you believe in a petty, spiteful, punitive dick-head of a god, but then you're just projecting your own personality onto your god-concepts. The REAL one is nothing like that at all.

I am gay and I hate communism. I am a capitalists. Why do idiots from the South make no sense when they open their mouths or write an e-mail? Texas should form its own back-ass-ward country.
