Certainly no one is suggesting the "B" come out of the GLBT movement, but a new study by a group of researchers in Chicago and Toronto questions how widespread bisexuality is in men and shows a need for more comprehensive studies to examine the topic.
The New York Times did a cover story in their Science section on the explosive study under the provocative headline, "Straight, Gay or Lying? Bisexuality Revisited." Sadly, reporting on research that questioned assumptions on switch hitters earned the Times brickbats by leading GLBT advocacy groups.
One day they publish a completely rabid and hate-mongering blog called "Bisexuality is Bullshit."
The next day they publish a middle-of-the-road blog saying "Of course no one is saying the 'B' should come out of the GLBT movement."
What is wrong with people like this? Are they confused? Are they in denial? Are they just being "trendy" - especially after NGLTF suddenly gets on board? Are they just experimenting? Oh no ... I see ... they're WAYNE BESEN.

Wayne Besen's book did a good job of taking apart Robert Spitzer's shoddily constructed study that purported to prove that "ex-gay" programs actually turn people straight. So it was disconcerting to see such utter credulity applied to a study by Bailey, who has had serious ethical problems in his studies and published claims that bis are "lying" prior to doing this study. Besen asks us to look skeptically at the very apparent flaws in the Spitzer study, yet accept the Bailey one as unquestioned "science."
It's even more bizarre when you note that Bailey's generalizations didn't match his data. The bi men in the study DID become aroused by both sexes, though they tended to favor one over the other. Since the "gay" and "straight" men in the study also fit this pattern, it would be just as accurate to say that any man who DOESN'T call himself bisexual is lying.
STUDY AUTHOR Denies that study proves bisexuality doesn't exist.
""One of the authors of the Northwestern study is Meredith Chivers, an Ottawa native who is now a post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Ms. Chivers cautioned that the research should be taken in context.
"This doesn't mean that bisexuality in men doesn't exist," she said. "It's kind of a ludicrous statement to define someone's sexuality solely on the basis of arousal patterns."""
