Former US president Bill Clinton did the TV rounds on Sunday, sharply criticizing George W. Bush for the Iraq War and the handling of Hurricane Katrina, and voiced alarm at the swelling US budget deficit.
Every time Clinton appears on television he greatly diminishes Bush. He is so articulate and intelligent, that our current president looks small and embarrassing by comparison. Sure, Clinton used bad judgment and squandered his presidency, in many ways. But at least no one doubted that when he negotiated with foreign leaders, we always had the smarter guy. Can anyone say the same about Bush?

If Clinton ran for President today - he would win by a landslide!
No question he would probably win if he were running. However, keep in mind two very important things that happened under his watch. He it was who introduced that offensive don't ask don't tell policy in the military as well as the defense of marriage act, swiftly I might add. His wife is no friend of same-sex marriage rights either.
Bill Clinton is truly one of the greatest American Presidents ever. It was a pleasure to see him debating, participating of cultural events and -in general- adressing minorities. He even show himself more human while that stupid Lewinsky scandal ( I am so envious of her!)Clinton is loved everywere!

I have long struggled to make sense of Clinton's failed promises to our community ... ie. DADT and DOMA specifically ... I was fierce in my opposition at the time and during much of the cLINTON administration over these devisive issues.
But today I'd much rather have Clinton back at the helm than the sleezy bunch of criminals currently running our Federal government -- Hands Down!
PS: I'm afraid you are right - Hillary is a centrist and will do whatever it takes as a concensus builder -- which I'm afraid translates into more of the same -- wishy-washy support for GaY Rights.
Bush Hater: yes, if the former president Clinton were running again, even though I know he opposes full civil rights for gays and lesbians, he would indeed be the lesser of the two evils, ditto his wife. There are some very naive gay people who think that even if one votes for someone such as the Clintons, that once elected, one can persuade them to see our point on full civil rights. I'm not so convinced of that. I doubt if any politician would be prepared to put his or head on the block and change position. It would be political suicide and for the party. Our situation in the U.S. is complex in terms of granting same-sex marriage rights for instance. We have 50 states, each with its own government, its own set of laws, virtually operating as different countries. One could argue that every state should have the same laws which would seem fairer. Its difficult for sure. My biggest fear is that we'll end up a far more bitterly divided country wherein a handful of states are prepared to recognize same sex marriage and the majority are not which opens up a whole other can of worms. Even though some of us might be fortunate enough to marry, our federal tax rights and a host of others that ensue from it would be null and void in the other states along with our marriages. There is no easy solution and its going to take a long long time to see the entire country get on board, probably not in our lifetime. I hope I'm proved wrong.
