As we all know, gay people have faithfully played an integral role in the Catholic church. Over the years I've been very supportive of gay Catholics and even gay priests. I have admired their courage to stand and fight the forces of darkness in Rome, who used their talents, even while demeaning and degrading their humanity.
But the Vatican's new war against gay priests has simply taken the persecution too far. Pope Benedict XVI is planning to purge the seminary and falsely equate homosexuality with child molestation. Of course, he seems to care little about the girls who were sexually abused at the hands of priests. The Vatican's smear campaign will have dangerous repercussions around the world. Bigots will use the Pope's purge as a signal that it okay to discriminate.
In light of this war against all homosexuals, it is time for the LGBT community to stop coddling the poor gay priests and their supporters who continue to think the situation in Rome is salvageable. Gay Catholic groups and these jilted priests should consider taking advice from the band REM: Lose Your Religion.
There are many other faiths that will not treat you like a dog at the pound and would be happy to welcome Catholic refugees. While it was once admirable to stay within this faith and fight, that time has ended. To continue as a priest or supporter is to be the abused wife who keeps returning home to bake brownies and take a beating. The new Pope has spoken and he thinks you are a perv. It is time to grow up and move on. As for the gay Priests, I know it will be painful to lose your careers. Try Monster.com, it has helped many unemployed people find new jobs that actually respect them for who they are.
Look on the bright side, at least you will finally get to go on a date.

As a homosexual priest I must disagree. The Pope's word is true. I must follow what he says, even if I don't like it. If he says that I am a sinner, it is I who must change, not the church. I will continue to serve God, even though at times it will be difficult.

I agree with the previous post. As a gay Catholic priest, I accept what the church teaches without questioning it. I have no desire to use my own mind. Whatever the church does is fine with me and it is my duty to follow without giving a single thought to my own life. How dare anyone say that we priests should think for ourselves!

So, I suppose if the pope told gay priests to kill themselves, then I assume they would do it without question? Get over the infallibility of the papacy on matters of faith, its human just like the rest of us. Its made big mistakes in the past (infallibility on the inquisition comes to mind).
I remember as a child, as catholics we were told that the Jews were responsible for killing Jesus.....another of those infamous, inhumane edicts under the guise of papal infallibility. Now the church apologized a year or two ago for having said that. So you see, the pope is not infallible on matters of faith. So I guess we have to blame god since it is he or she who speaks through his vicar on earth (the pope) on matters of faith and doctrine which MUST be believed for eternal salvation in the eyes of the church. To think catholics are excommunicated for not believing in papal infallibility. What arrogance!

This reiterates what I've been saying for years: the Catholic church is no place for gays. The church heirarchy has demonstrated time and again their blatant hate and hostility for anyone that dares to step outside of their narrow, socio-sexual box. I'm an ex-Catholic myself, I haven't set foot in a church of any kind in over 10 years, and I'm perfectly happy with that.
As for the two gay priests who posted here, get a clue. If you must follow a god, do that, but don't blindly accept the word of a human, a being as full of flaw and fault as anyone else. I was always raised to believe that the Christian god gave humans free will, the blindly following the dictates of religion is a false and hollow pursuit. Your church has demonstrated quite forcefully that it doesn't want you, it doesn't love you, and it believes you are sinful, deviant beings. Now, it's time to get off the cross. We need the wood.
Johnny, I agree. I too haven't set foot inside a church in a long time either and won't, not even yo attend weddings, funerals etc. I'd be a far worse hypocrite than those who do.
I wonder how the church will ferret out hetero priests who commit pedophilia/ephebophilia or does the church equate pedophilia strictly with homosexuals? Talk about double standards, the hypocrisy of it all. I'm all for investigating bishops, abbots, cardinals too. They should not be exempt.
I agree with the gay priest. As a gay catholic man, I must suppress all of my urges because the bible tells me it is wrong to do that. There is no room for reason and there is nothing such a "thinking for yourself." that is just something people say to excuse their sins against the Lord. I will never question what I am told because if the church says it, it must be true. I mean it.

Methinks the Rat-singer is a bit too obsessive about us faery folk. As we learned in Psych 101, this probably means that he's battling his own inner lust for hot pecks and juicy wurst. Or maybe he prefers the young blond hitlerjugend type; fond memories from his childhood. I think the second posting is not a real priest, but just someone being sarcastic; but hey, we're gay, acerbic wit is our birthright, despite what His Assholiness in Rome says. Gary (NJ)

Gary, its quite possible the first two postings aren't priests either. I've never heard so much self-hating in my life. If they have no intention of "using their own brain", then I have no sympathy for any of them. They deserve what they get.
Yes, they have been over-obsessing on the gay issue at hand, far to much if you ask me. It probably goes beyond the prurient too. I wonder if they'll appoint a cleric to conduct an arousal test, since this is the only way they will be able to gather evidence that there is indeed "evidence of homosexuality" in the ranks. Maybe they should go after all of them, heteros included and see who passes the test. Wouldn't it be a hoot if they all failed, maybe the one administering the test too.
I really do feel empathetic towards the first post, if in fact you are a homosexual priest. But I must ask, why in the world would you take everything the Pope says as true and his condemnation of you? There isn't a person who has ever walked this planet, including those who wrote the bible, that can tell a homosexual he/she is a sinner just because of who they are. (I do not believe in the concept of sin itself anyway). It is religion, not god or mother nature who condemn us for who we are. I also hold no credibility in the Pope or his unethical church.

The pope should learn a little humility..."judge not and ye shall not be judged". As usual, the pope casts the first stone. Isn't it breathtaking, none of them practice what the bible preaches if you believe in that piece of contradictory, depressing fiction. If they all truly believe everything the bible admonishes, as they claim they do since it is supposed to be "the word of god," they would have thrown dirt over themselves long ago and we wouldn't be here having this discussion.
If I had my druthers, I'd bring Ratzi to the European Court on Human Rights for crimes against an entire community of people, i.e. for inciting hatred and violence against us by his vicious statements, along with all of his rabble. Its a form of terrorism.
Robert, I agree wholeheartedly that old Ratz and his band of self-righteous fools should be brought before a human rights tribunal for their hate crimes against our community. Along with all of those religous KKK style hate groups. Sadly, at this point in time, it what they are doing is "acceptable" to the mainstream because we are really the only minority left that it remains acceptable to degrade and slander. You can imagine how these goons would react if they were on the receiving end of this bullshit for just once.
