The Oregonian reported today that police are investigating complaints that Louis Beres, longtime chairman of the Christian Coalition of Oregon, molested three female pre-teen family members.
"I was molested," said one of the women, now in her early 50s. "I was victimized, and I've suffereall my life for it. I'm still afraid to be in the same room with (Beres)."
Rich Galat, 41, of Oakland, Calif., is Beres' nephew. He said he told detectives that Beres has molested several female family members over two generations.
"My family has gone through hell," Galat said. "Lives have been ruined. Those of us who have come forward have been ostracized, verbally abused and the victims of character assassination...It must stop."
The details are new, but the story is ancient. The very right wing zealots who want to tell everyone how to live are the very people most likely to be knee-deep in sin. These creeps are so filled with guilt that they often project their own insecurities and sick longings into the political arena. Imagine this pig working to keep loving same-sex couples from marrying, in an effort to supposedly save the American family! The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
If a "straight" man is obsessed with opposing gay rights, you can almost bet he is attracted to men. If a person is a crusader against pornography, it is likely he is a porn junkie. The goal of these fundamentalist freaks is to persecute or ban what attracts them, so they won't succumb to their secret temptations and desires.
Of course, there is nothing more hideous than child molestation. It is an even worse betrayal when it occurs within the family. The Christian Coalition should take their busy-bodies to church, pray for their own salvation and learn how to mind their own stinking business. How long will America have to be subject to these perverts who act pious to hide their pathologies? For too many people, fundamentalism is beard for bad behavior.

What a sick bastard. These Christians are the biggest scumbags. Why America falls for their BS, I'll never know.
As a Christian, all I can say is that this man's sin does not excuse yours. Sodomy is still against the Lord, and his perversion does not justify or excuse yours. Got Jesus?
That's all you can say, J.H.? You can't condemn Beres's molestation, just try to point the finger at someone else to divert our attention?
Shut the f**k up, bitch. Failing to stand up for innocent victims of people like Beres is "against the Lord," too - and He's got a hot spot in mind for you. Hope you've got some asbestos-lined longjohns - you're going to need them!!!
Have a nice day. As Shirley Phelps likes to say, Magormissabib!

J.H.,
As a non-Christian, all I can say is that this man committed a crime, victims incluis, unlike Wayne. Sex between consensual adults is not a crime, and only a sin in the defenition of some homophobic or uneducated Christians. Got facts?

I and my sisters and uncounted others were vivtims of such a monster. he was caught several times. in oklahoma all you have to do is go to a church and ask for forgivness. even when i brought civil charges against him in 2000, the distric court judge said "i will not allow such a case in my court room" the problem for the judge was that i am a homosexual in a 19 year loving committed relationship. not the monster who molests children and is a grade school teacher. Kromer OKC OK

When it comes to dealing with people who have never accomplished anything real in life, it is often the same. They actually think that they have all the answers! Naturally, they never shut up about it.
My study of psychology has revealed that they embrace religion in an effort to adopt a "pseudo self-esteem". Since they fail at achieving REAL, inner self-esteem, they align themselves with a deity.
It is actually quite fascinating to see it happen. A lot of ex-child stars do the same thing. Once the source of their initial self-esteem fades away (fame), they move onto faith.
They are hostile to non-believers and to people who live differently than they do because we do not acknowledge the source of their false sense of self.

J.H.
Let me get this straight. . .if we never have sex and never fall in love, we get to live forever?
I'm ready to bet that this "christian" only embraced "Jesus" because there was something in it for themselves. Now THAT is sure license to run around judging others.
One does wonder why these churches require those who aren't members to be brought in as human sacrifices to their altar of self-indulgence.

It's overwhelming to contemplate the number of individuals like Beres in our society and our struggle against them and the type of traditional American religiosity they are able to hide behind. They are fighting against "modernity" (pluralism, equality) in the same way that Al Qaida fights for a return to medieval Islam and against modernity.

Dear JH,
No, I don't "got Jesus". I had him, but I decided it wasn't for me. What I do know from my time as a Christian, though, is that Jesus never said anything about gays. Ever. Not even once. The only law against sodomy are in the Old Testament, which for a Christian is merely history, not a text to live your life by. But here I am telling you your business.
What I DO know is that Jesus would have been appalled that someone would have violated the innocence and trust of a child. And he would also been appalled that someone like yourself would use his good name to spread hate and prejudice.
The biggest hypocrites are also the ones that profess to be the most religious, IMHO. I grew up in the Deep South, in the "Bible Belt, unbuckled". The hypocrisy was pervasive and so was the omnipresent judging of anyone who was deemed a "sinner", which, of course, was anyone who dared to disagree with any Xtian's declarations about the world - no matter how medieval or irrational. Although Xtians are warned to not act as judges ('God is the only true judge'), my experience with fundie Xtians, in particular, is that they are judging everyone they meet before the other person even opens her or his mouth. Xtianity, in particular, is based on a worldview that has its roots in pre-Dark Ages beliefs about the world and human nature. In the USA, the far right wing's association with Xtianity just might be its final undoing. I hope that the USA will move toward a secular state, like the democracies of Europe.

I got out of the Jesus thing, many years ago. The Jesus guy was OK, and seemed to be talking about a way of life that lacked the cruelty, bigotry, and violent authoritarianism of the Pharisees. But I couldn't help but notice that Southern Baptists don't actually believe in anything the Jesus guy said. Too commie for them.
I look at Christianity in today's world, and it seems those ideas died with the Jesus guy. Or,if they didn't die, they just moved on, away from the Christians who became the new Pharisees, in almost no time, based on the hate filled, angry writings of that damned Paul guy. St. Paul, to some.
One thing I remember from those Christian days; Jesus said this about Children "What you do unto the least of these, you do also unto me."
This kind of sick hypocritical behavior is all too common in Christian and ultra-conservative groups. Fred Phelps, the "God hates fags" creep. Has been charged in drunken assaults against his own children more than once. Three of his adult children are still in treatment, for physical and emotional damage.
Pat Robertson believes that to cure a boy of suspected homosexuality, a father should shower with his son and show him his manly penis. ???
Think about that, for a minute.
Yes, he has taken that article down from his web site, but it was there for a long time and can still be found on google cache pages.
That is the same Robertson who has been using Christian 'offerings' to leverage his gold and diamond mining interests in Africa. He is active in the blood diamond trade. How very Jesus like, eh?
So, finding out that a Christian Coalition fascist is a serial child molester, comes as no surprise to me.
Nor does it surprise me, that someone so brainless and or hypocritical enough, to keep defending these criminals, would leave such an ignorant, 'I don't really giver a shit' comment as the anonymous J.H. left.

I am this child molestors nephew.
He continues to hide behind the church.
As his daughter - my cousin - begins bravely to search into the past - Lou Beres and his enabling wife Marianne denounce their daughter as being guided by Satan.
sorry about the evilness, cowardness, of everybody. me, you everyone in this world is undiserving of gods mercy and grace including the man that committed his crime. jesus came to save him, and everyone else to (even though he will pay, and pay he will, for what he did here down on earth). thank god. Please everyone clear your heads dont let this man or any other person that abuses his authority in the church make you have hate in your heart to christ. He said he is the son of god and the only way the the father is through him. He believed in this so much that he died for you, me and this man. dont let anybody take that away.
