First, he appoints Brownie to FEMA, even though he had no experience in storm or disaster management. Now, he nominates Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court, his personal attorney in Texas and general counsel for his gubernatorial transition team in 1994. In 1995, he appointed Miers to the Texas Lottery Commission. Somehow, I feel that this nomination isn't a winning number
The fiercely loyal Miers came with her patron to Washington in 2001 as staff secretary, the person who screens all the memorandums that cross the president's desk. She was promoted to deputy chief of staff before Bush assigned her counsel after his reelection.
Too bad I never mowed Bush's lawn, I might one day be nominated to run the Environmental Protection Agency. Just like Brownie, Miers has no experience in the job for which she was nominated. She has never been a judge. There is a rumor that she once sat on the bench, unfortunately it was at a picnic table in DC's Rock Creek Park. I hope she knows that the gavel has more uses than cracking open walnuts.
This is not to say that Miers has no experience. In 1992, for example, she took on the American Bar Association when they adopted a pro-choice position, according to The Washington Post.
Miers was active in a 1992 battle in the American Bar Association, arguing vehemently but unsuccessfully against a resolution supportive of abortion rights. News reports at the time did not quote her on the merits of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision legalizing abortion, but rather on what she considered the inappropriateness of the ABA taking a position.
So, she didn't take an official position on Roe v Wade. But out of the countless ABA resolutions, she chose the abortion issue to turn into her personal Alamo. Please, the woman clearly has antipathy towards legal abortions. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't look good. Just a word of advice for American women. Make sure you sterilize your coat hangers to avoid infection.
It is also disturbing that Miers' office takes the lead in vetting and recommending candidates for the federal judiciary. Is she partially responsible for the parade of extremists in which the Bush administration has tried to stack the courts? Senate Democrats blocked 10 of the president's 34 appeals court nominees during his first term, saying they were too extreme in their conservatism, according to The Post.
There is great angst this morning in the GLBT Community because Miers has served on the board of Exodus Ministries. This is also the name of the nation's largest "ex-gay" group. However, we do not yet know if this is the group she supports, or another group by the same name, such as Exodus Ministries in Texas, a group working with ex-offenders. I, along with others in the community, are investigating this.
Finally, when Bush was governor of Texas, he once referred to her as "a pit bull in size 6 shoes". Based on what we initially know about Miers, I'm already afraid she is going to bite mainstream America in the ass.

Anyone that devoted to bush has got to be an asshole; if ever the Dems use the filibuster it should be now!! She's totally NOT qualified to be on the Supreme Court. When bush was making his announcement on the news this morning, she was gawking at him with this constant shit-eatin' grin on her face. She's obviously as wacked out as the rest of his entourage.
