(Weekly Column) The nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court is driving the right wing crazy. Well, they were always nuts, but now President George W. Bush is the surprising target of their vituperation, even as he desperately seeks their cooperation. The last time conservatives were this angry, it was over another presidential worshipping White House groupie. But at least Bill Clinton didn't nominate Monica Lewinsky to the Supreme Court.
Originally, Bush thought by choosing a crony with no paper trail he would inoculate himself against Democrats. What he did not expect was that conservative discontent would spread faster than avian bird flu. It appears that the only vaccine to stop this right wing pandemic of pandemonium is the withdrawal of the Miers nomination.
Apparently they've spent years 'grooming' certain far right judges that they expected to get appointed to the SC at the appropriate time. Instead their boy George throws a curve ball and picks his own 'work wife' who they think MIGHT bend to the left if she gets in there. The best laid plans of rats and men.... Gary (NJ)

Bush had a reason for nominating Miers, have No doubt about it!
You even have Dobson in her corner telling the GOP how right she is. This is not a mistake on Bushs part, he wants her and forsure NOT for the reasons he's trying to sell her on, BUT his GOP Senators aren't reading between the lines, like they're suppose to, that's how stupid they are AND the Demos have got to put a stop to her No Matter What!!!

That all may be true, BUT remember she was suggested to Bush by Harry Reid, the Dem minority speaker! Maybe that's another reason the far right is so wigged out about it. Go figure. Gary (NJ)

Yes Reid did suggest Miers to Bush, but in private and what seems to be "secrecy". http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=w051003&s=zengerle100605
The smart thing, in my opinion, would be NOT put Miers in and pick one of the folks the HRC and ACLU have strongly suggested.
