Speaking before a Washington dinner of the Frontiers of Freedom Institute, a conservative research organization, Cheney said last night that Democrats who say they were bamboozled by Bush are "making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war." The admonishment, Cheney said, threatens to undermine the morale of U.S. troops while "a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie." Cheney went even further in his attacks.
"The president and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone," Cheney said last night. "But we're not going to sit back and let them rewrite history."
Hours later, at a news conference with Asian leaders Bush went on the attack.
"I expect there to be criticism. But when Democrats say that I deliberately misled the Congress and the people, that's irresponsible." Bush seemed personally irritated. He said it is "patriotic as heck to disagree with the president. It doesn't bother me. What bothers me is when people are irresponsibly using their positions and playing politics. That's exactly what is taking place in America.
Bush and Cheney ought to be ashamed of themselves. They seem to forget a few simple facts:
1) There is evidence that they had a hard-on for Hussein even before 9-11 and that the Neo-cons wanted the attack for at least a decade. They were determined to make this happen and did - and now we suffer.
2) Congress DID NOT have access to the same intelligence as the White House. Congress received scrubbed reports that minimized or omitted opinions that undermined the Bush administrations weak case.
3) Bush put together the secretive cabal called the White House Iraq Group (WHIG) to plot for a war they desperately wanted, but America did not need.
3) Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., has stonewalled on a report detailing how Bush misled the nation into war. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., had to briefly call a closed session in the Senate before the GOP agreed to take action.
4) Here is the most important evidence: The Administration deliberately hyped false information about Iraq's weapons programs to scare Americans into supporting the war. They said that Saddam was trying to obtain nuclear materials. As proof, they claimed that Saddam was importing aluminum tubes that could only be used for a nuclear program and that Iraq was trying to purchase yellow cake uranium from Niger. Both stories were fabrications or forgeries that Bush and Cheney KNEW to be false. The administration also knowingly made false links between Iraq and Al Quada, using as evidence a meeting in Europe that never took place.
Folks, this is called scumbaggery. There is no doubt that Bush and Cheney hyped false information and likely pressured CIA analysts to fix intelligence. What they did was immoral, sickening and evil. Now, they want to claim that criticism of their perverse plan is hurting the troops morale. If you ask me, the morale of the troops would be much better if they had never gone to Iraq and were home with their families.
Bush and Cheney have abused America's trust, lied to voters and placed our military personnel at unnecessary risk. It is now up to the Democrats not to shrink from battle and stand up to these pathologicl politicians. If they Dems fight they will win. If they flee, Bush will once again rise in the polls. Let us hope they elect to take the former course of action.

Bush talks about playing politics. Well, lets not forget the neo Nuremberg style nazi rally at the GOP convention in NYC last year. Gays were the scapegoats again to stick it to the democrats which Kerry bungled anyway in that disastrous admission in not supporting gay marriage rights. Bush and Cheney should be impeached, immediately. Why isn't the damn electorate clamoring for it? Blow jobs count for nothing this time.
You guys are mean! Everyone know that Saddam oppressed millions of people and killed those who didin't like him. we needed to liberate the iraqis from a horrible dictator, which was the REAL reason we went to war, NOT to get nuclear weapons. we liberated iraqis and brought the lord's democracy to a troubled nation! this was totally right after the 9/11 attacks in which Saddam was an indirect yet supportive participant! i know this for a fact because that it what Cheney says, and he is a genious! you must follow our leaders and their wisdom WITHOUT questioning their truth, otherwise you are being unpatriotic and abusing the freedom that god gave us! i am certainly not surprised at the increase in hurricanes and tornadoes, we have turned our back on the WAY and questioned things way too much! we need to be more obedient and follow what bush says! we should stop trying to be independent minded!

Sidney, you're either a clever prankster with a good handle on the mindless, uninformed, prattlings of the rapture-right or, if you're letter was sincere, you have got to be one of the most illiterate ignoramuses that has ever posted on here. And we've had them aplenty. Gary (NJ)

The shameless deception, the outright criminal acts that this administration has engaged in leave the Nixon WH looking like pre-school.
The single worst part is the MainStreamMedia's complicity throughout the last five years. Where is the Press? Why aren't news anchors and newspapers calling for our leaders to come clean and to be held accountable?
The problem is the Bush/Cheney WH has manipulated the MSM to the point that they are simply propaganda machines for their agenda. Thank Gawd for the internet and the rise of blogging ... its seems to be the only way to get real news without the spin anymore.
I say to Sidney, what about your homeboy Bush and the GOP's oppression of gays and their civil rights as taxpayers you moron! If you think you live in a true democracy, think again. Until all U.S. citizens are accorded equal rights, as taxpayers, we are not a living in a democracy. Its an ideal that only a handful of European countries and Canada have realized, the true champions of freedom.
Excellent article! It's funny how these repugs always forget to address the issues brought up by Democrats. Instead, they resort to calling us unpatriotic. What a mature way to deal with opposition!
P.S You may want to watch your numbering.
