Sean Rushton, executive director of the Committee for Justice, an organization that supports President Bush's judicial nominees said today that anti-gay rhetoric will be employed against liberal groups opposed to Samuel Alito.
Mr. Rushton said the [liberal] advertising campaign would end up helping Judge Alito by enabling conservatives to mount their own campaign in his defense, attacking the liberal groups for their stands on gay rights and other social issues. When Judge Alito testifies, the conservative groups' commercials "will just paint the accusers as the shrill and extreme ones," Mr. Rushton said.
It is amazing how conservatives can only win by spreading hate, mistrust, fear, lies and misinformation. Without wedge issues, where would they be? They only use these smear campaigns because they know their elitist ideas are bankrupt and do nothing for average, middle class families.

Its as if gays are in a catch 22 situation. On the one hand we have the right wing politicians using anti-gay rhetoric to advance their agenda of hate, and the democrats who say or do nothing to retaliate, because if they do, they'll be branded with the "l' word. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. There is something terribly wrong with our two party that we have to put up with much of the same every four years, no matter who wins. Neither party speaks to any of the real issues.
The smear tactics and Big Lies work because the country in general is still too DUMB, uninformed, misinformed and illiterate to know any better. Bush brags about not reading newspapers or books (just as ronald reagan did) and 'his base' is equally blissful in their lazy and willful ignorance; to wit (55 percent of the American public did not know that the Earth goes around the Sun once a year; 28 percent didn't know that the earth goes around the Sun at all!! Need we say more?! Gary (NJ)
