Today, The Washington Post blew the lid off of Dick Cheney's oleaginous scheme to have oil companies and polluters set America's energy policy. This is absolutely scandalous and points to the Bush administration's utter contempt for honest and open government.
According to the Post, aWhite House document shows that executives from big oil companies met with Vice President Cheney's energy task force in 2001 -- something long suspected by environmentalists but denied as recently as last week by industry officials testifying before Congress.
Folks, this breach of trust with the American people is huge. Instead of creating a comprehensive, environmentally friendly energy policy that benefited average Americans, Cheney used American policy as a giveaway to oil companies. We knew Cheney was slippery, but this now proves the extent he is in the pocket of energy lobbyists.
3 Comments:
Despite the broad brush strokes, it is telling that Chevron execs were not at the meeting -- but were just one of the many companies that (at the task force's request) provided recommendations -- a not uncommon phenomenom in policy circles.
Whilst the other CEO's may have dissembled, Chevron's CEO did not.

Dr. Evil cheney is probably in charge now more than ever, since bush has been in such deep shit his psychopathologies have come out more and more, he's even more reclusive now than ever and basically only talks to 4 people everyday (all women), his wife, his mother, condi and karen hughes. It is reported that he barely has contact with his father anymore, with whom he has a love-hate relationship. He's pissed at cheney and rove for not saving him from the scandals that he of course helped create. The president is a psychological basket case who becomes more disconnected from reality with each passing day and could implode before he finishes this term in office. As I've said before here, read Bush on the Couch, an extremely alarming book which pretty much predicted everything we're seeing from him today. Gary (NJ)

Gary, I wholeheartedly agree. My only fear is, if by some miracle there is an upsurge in the economy and further tax breaks for the rich, this is going to be just another storm in a teacup. Republicans have a patent on teflon, witness Reagan et al. But yes, slippery Dick the deviant, (yuck, the thought of Cheney's slippery dick) is another nightmare we have yet to deal with in the next 3 years. I can only imagine what he's contriving right now along with Rove and his cabal.
