Several Democrats joined President Bush yesterday in rebuking Howard Dean's declaration to a San Antonio radio station Monday that "the idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong."
"Dean's take on Iraq makes even less sense than the scream in Iowa: Both are uninformed and unhelpful," said Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.), recalling Dean's famous election-night roar after stumbling in Iowa during his 2004 presidential bid.
A new Time magazine poll found 60 percent of those surveyed disapproved of Bush's handling of Iraq. Still, I have to agree that Dean's remarks were not helpful. I think that Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid, D-Nev., has it right. He has persuaded most Democratic senators to vote for a recent Senate resolution calling 2006 "a period of significant transition to full Iraqi sovereignty" and to compel the administration "to explain to Congress and the American people its strategy for the successful completion of the mission in Iraq."
Finally, it would be nice if the Democrats would handle their disputes behind closed doors. As the Republicans crumble under deceit, lies and corruption - the last thing that Democrats want to do is give them new life by having a spitball fight on the public stage.

The Dems need to stop attacking Dean. It is wrong and they look stupid.
Howard Dean has the courage to stand up and say what most of us already think. The Iraq War is not winnable and was a mistake. It is Vietnam - The Sequel. How long will we allow our leaders to put their heads in the sand on this one? How many young men/women must die before enough is enough? Bushco lost this war by mismanagement and now no matter how many troops are sent in - it is not winnable.
I firmly believe that Iraq can once again be contained and put in check by using International Peace Keepers from member states of the UN.
Lets turn this over to the International community for assistance. We are loosing credibility every day in the International community. We are going in the wrong direction and we must realize that if we don't correct it - eventually the world will rise up in unison and put us in our place.
Condeleeza's latest pronouncments to our European neighbors are falling on deaf ears - they know that Bushco is lying and breaking International Law and thumbing their noses at Human Rights Treaties.
America can once again be a leader but it will take bold leadership and a willingness to work within the confines of the global community. Something this administration does not understand.
