On November 28, 2005, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) against James Dobson's Focus on the Family. Naomi Seligman, CREW's Deputy Director, was delighted when Soulforce offered to launch a national drive to support this complaint. By signing the petition addressed to the IRS, you will join thousands of Americans who are concerned about James Dobson's growing political influence in Washington, D.C. and across the nation.
Focus on the Family is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization whose stated purpose is "to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through a practical outreach to homes." In past years, Dr. Dobson has become increasingly shrill about his political beliefs (especially against GLBT people) on his daily radio program and through his fundraising letters.
For example, on December 1, 2005, Focus on the Family announced that it would end its long time banking relationship with Wells Fargo because of the bank's "ongoing efforts to advance the radical homosexual agenda."
Earlier this year Dobson promised to dedicate his life to amending the U.S. Constitution with a Federal Marriage Amendment that would make second-class citizens of Lesbian and Gay Americans in committed relationships and deny them their basic civil rights and protections.
Although his non-profit status bars him from electioneering, Dr. Dobson continues to use his considerable political muscle to support anti-gay initiatives and to endorse candidates for political office. In early April, 2004, Dr. Dobson endorsed Republican Representative Patrick J. Toomey in his race for Senate in Pennsylvania. In addition, it was reported that Dr. Dobson actively campaigned during a rally for Rep. Toomey.
Other candidates that Dr. Dobson reportedly endorsed in 2004 include North Carolina Republican candidate Pat Ballentine for Governor and Oklahoma Republican candidate Tom Coburn for Senate.

Let's ban together folks and get these scum sucking hypocites where it really HURTS them in their pocket books! If we can get their Tax-exempt status pulled they'll be too busy collecting money to keep their operation/s going!!

As a mom with a gay son, I signed this petition on the Soulforce website. It is wonderful you posted this so the news gets spread! Thank you. No other person does more damage to the gay community than Dr. James Dobson.
I can't for the life me understand why this is such an agenda for Dobson and Focus on the Family. When our son came out, we found the gay community and have been blessed time and time again by that gift. Our family grew in love when we became part of the gay community. I hope one day Focus on the Family will understand what it means to truly be family. But until that day, we must work to undo the damage they do everyday. Last May Soulforce held a rally outside of their massive headquarters. We are going back next summer. Sign the petition and then check out the Soulforce rally at Focus on the Family next summer. Thank you Randi, There are so many more parents of Gay children that have to be reached. Dobson talks about family, but doesn't know the real meaning of the word "family" especially when a lot of parents he talks to and who listen to his inflamatory remarks about us, the Gay community, throw their kids out of their homes and into the streets, some as young 12 years old.
I thank God for all the organizations that help and a special thanks to Soulforce.
Randi, thank you so much for posting here with us. Your courage and determination in confronting Dobson's evil rhetoric is appreciated by the gay community. I had planned on attending the protest last year and couldn't but would be interested in coming this year. Focus on the Family must be stopped before one more family falls apart and one more gay adolescent is tossed out on the street or disowned because of Focus's determination to demonize gays and lesbians out of existance. Revoking the fraudulent tax exempt status the organization enjoys is the first step to stopping this evil empire. Thanks again, and my love to the great people of Soulforce.
