Reality can suck, especially when you don't pay attention to it.
Today, Senators lambasted the Bush administration for failing to heed devastating predictions from a hurricane preparedness test that began a year before Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast.
Whoops....
This reminds me of the pre-911 memo given to Condi Rice and Bush that read: "Bin Laden Determined To Attack Inside U.S." After the terrorists knocked down our buildings, Bush and Rice lied and said, no one could have predicted terrorists would fly planes into buildings.
Well, if you don't read your own warnings, you won't predict such tragedies. This is called gross incompetence. All I can say is, "Your doing a heckuva job Bush.

Wayne,
This was the "Hurricane Pam" exercise. There are some intriguing (if that's the right word in this tragedy) comparisons between "Pam" and reality (Katrina), one of them being:
"Dear Mr. May -
I noticed your post today on the Corner regarding the much lower than expected number of deaths in Louisiana from Katrina than feared. The low number is even more remarkable when compared to what was predicted would happen in a category 3 storm (and Katrina was category 4).
The most interesting information in the much reported on "Hurricane Pam" simulation/study done in 2004 is this: 61,290 people die, including 24,250 in New Orleans. An additional 384,000 are injured or fall ill.
This tells me that in the area that matters most, saving lives, the response to the disaster was extraordinary. How can this be? How about the following:
1. Well before the storm hits, President Bush calls governor (and mayor?) to evacuate.
2. Mayor, even if belatedly, orders mandatory evacuation.
3. Coast Guard, military and other federal government employees rescue thousands from the flood. Last time I checked, all these people work for President Bush.
Bullshit Mark Hulings! Those levees should have been built up years ago. Bush and his gagle of incompetants could see the monster storm approaching from space and did nothing. The gov of LA begged for help from FEMA days before it hit and asked them to send all the help they could. Bush did nothing; while the people were drowning and the FEMA persons on the ground in New Orleans were frantically called and emailing for help from "Brownie" he was too busy trying to find a 'nice restaurant where he could have dinner and unwind'. He was doing a heck of a job. All these FACTS can be read on Randi Rhodes website. And yes thousands of people are still missing and the suicide rate in New Orleans is skyrocketing right now from the despair over bush's ongoing INACTION in that devastated area. I'm not surprised that someone from the rightwing rag 'the national review' would defend these worthless bafoons. Gary (NJ)
