Congressional Democrats finally laid out a plan to change what they called a GOP "culture of corruption" in Washington. They stood in front of a large sign that read: "Honest Leadership, Open Government."
This is a winning slogan and I think the Democrats are onto something, although I suggested this in a column several months ago. Of course, that is why readership of this site is growing so quickly, because people can see innovative ideas from me or my smart readers in the comments section months before they make it onto the national stage.
In another wise move, the Dems look like they are gearing up to vote against Alito - who will hopelessly move the Supreme Court to the right.
And, I'm sorry, I'm sick of hearing how "smart" Alito is. He is nothing more than a trained monkey who has the ability to memorize documents. Has this "yes-man" ever had an original thought in his life? Has he ever issued an opinion of importance? Has he ever made America rethink the law? What has he done - other than get good grades - that makes him worthy of serving on the court? In my book, he's terribly overrated and unworthy of confirmation. How about getting a real thinker on the court, or might that intimidate Bush?
4 Comments:
Even a trained monkey is smarter than bush, but you're right, he IS intimidated by smart, creative people who challenge him and tell the truth. That's why he's surrounded by obsequious lickspittles and yes-men and women. Newsweek didnt declare him the 'boy in the bubble' for nothing. Gary (NJ)

The entire nomination process is flawed. Nominees are not required to answer every question put to them. If they were compelled to answer, I think we'd see a different Supreme Court altogether. On the issue of LGBT equality, every candidate should be asked to answer yes or no, e.g. Do you believe in full equality for LGBT citizens? Do you believe in a woman's right to choose. If the answer is no, then we know what we're dealing with. Right now, Alito avoids answering questions directly but cites cases in which he ruled in favor of an isolated gay-related issue. Its not good enough. Their feet should be held to the fire by answering simply yes or no to a question. We don't need useless, often pointless explanations to a question. I certainly don't buy into the argument that this man is smarter than any other. He'll say anything to get nominted, a definite yes-man. How I enjoyed seeing his wife snivel.
SCOTUS is lost - this battle is not winnable. Bill Frist announced today that he wouldn't even allow Senator's to Debate Alito's nomination on the Floor of the Senate until after the Vote.
Folks, we can cry for filibuster until we are blue in the face - it ain't gonna happen the Democrats can't sustain a filibuster. Don't get me wrong - I believe a lone Senator in the tradition of Mr. Smith goes to Washington should stand up and filibuster this nomination until he passes out from exhaustion if thats what it would take ... but that ain't the way things really work up there.
Its high time we make sure that the next SCOTUS appointee isn't a Far Right-Wing neo-con. We need to make sure that the GOP looses majority control of the House, the Senate and the White House. Until this happens -- they can do whatever they damn well like ... and they are.
