Folks, I just had an awful dream. Unfortunately, when I woke up, it was reality...
We are about to surrender our Supreme Court to extremists with the confirmation of Sam Alito. If the Democrats don't filibuster (which they won't) the right wing will own the courts. You can kiss gay and abortion rights goodbye. But, you can say hello to unlimited government and imperial executive power.
Alito is a lion in wolves clothing who is pretending to be a sheep. I don't buy his unconvincing "moderate" act for one minute. America is about to make a horrible mistake by confirming this overrated Bush yes-man.
The Human Rights Campaign has said Alito was "the right-wing choice they had been waiting for." Meanwhile, in an ad, the hate-mongering Family Research Council calls Alito "One of us."
Maybe it is time for a rally in front of the Supreme Court? At the very least we can show that the majority of Americans are fearful of losing reasonable access to a reasonable court.
The nightmare is very real. Alito's wife was the first to weep over his nomination. The tears of millions of Americans are guaranteed to follow.

God help America if we let this Brown Shirt Nazi onto the Supreme Court.
Wayne, I'm afraid you're right, the dems aren't going to filibuster this fascist. We're truly fucked once he's confirmed. I smell civil unrest in the wind and maybe that's a good thing. The dems are finished as far as I'm concerned if they let this one go.
Bush is adamant about grabbing and sustaining imperial power for the office of the POTUS. His extensive use of the Presidential *Signing Statement* during his tenure was brought to light after he was forced to sign the McCain Anti-Torture legislation in which he declared as President he *can and will* disregard the very legislation that he was signing into law. One has to wonder why Bush is so adamant about Congress renewing the Patriot Act - given his administration's interpretation of his constitutional power to ignore the law when it suits his purpose. The fact that he has declared that we are in a perpetual *state of war* on terrorism would seem to provide the platform for an imperial Presidency, and for that Bush needs SCOTUS to be in his pocket.
The Bush administration's justification for his signing statement interpretations and his willingness to ignore the FISC law and order illegal NSA wiretapping ... ultimately if left unchecked we will no longer have a President who is subject to the Rule of Law and/or the Constitution but rather an Imperial Presidency. He may then decide who is and who is not an enemy combatant, hold enemy combatants indefinitely without due process, use torture on enemy combatants, as well as suspend any other guarantee granted by the Constitution -- as he sees fit. The SCOTUS is the only authority left to check this imbalance of power.
Alito is a means to an end for the Bush administration and his confirmation all but guarantees that SCOTUS will be sufficiently stacked to uphold any and all things that this POTUS decides is in the best interest of national security no matter what he does.
