Tempers flared on day three of questioning as Senator Kennedy demanded more information about Alito's affiliation with a conservative Princeton alumni group. Alito was slippery with his answers and acted like he knew nothing of the controversial group. I'm hoping the Democrats have opposition research to prove that he is a liar, as I suspect.
Would someone please remove Alito's wife from the hearings. Martha-Ann Bomgardner threw a histrionic fit and scurried out in tears. Let's not pick on the woman, but if she can't take the heat...
Particularly obnoxious are Republicans who are claiming the Democrats are being mean. If they wanted a nice confirmation hearing, they could have urged Bush not to nominate a right wing shill. The ever-nelly Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham was at his most insincere when accusing the Democrats of being cold hearted.
"Guilt by association is going to drive good men and women away from wanting to sit where you're sitting. ... Judge Alito, I am sorry that you've had to go through this. I am sorry that your family has had to sit here and listen to this."
Did it occur to Graham that Alito wouldn't be in this mess if he would not have so freely associated with the guilty?

Whatever the outcome, Alito is bad news for all of us. He talks out of both sides of his mouth and evades answering questions where he stands on gay issues. If I had been Kennedy, one of my questions would have been this..."Judge Alito, do you believe in full equality for all citizens, no matter their sexual orienation"? I wonder what his answer might have been. As for his wife's sniveling, oh please!
Dont be mean!?!?! The GOP has turned being mean, smearing, attacking, demeaning and LYING into a fine art! Machiavelli could have taken lessons from these vipers. If you want to see M E A N imagine if we had a Dem. president and a very liberal judge were now being 'interviewed' for a job on the supreme court. Imagine how nice and "dignified" (as bush kept saying) the rightwingnuts would be right now! I've said it before, the Dems need to grow a pair of big ones and start fighting as dirty as the right does; otherwise they/we're going to just keep on losing. Gary (NJ)

Right on, Gary! A bunch of wimps. That simple question I posed to Alito in my previous comment had I been Kennedy, nobody has ever dared to ask it. Its a question that should have been asked of Kerry and Bush during the last campaign. Its a question all future candidates for 2008 should be asked. I'm fed up with the political correctness and seeking dialog with moderates and extremeists as opposed to confrontation. Its getting us nowhere fast.
How absurd! Senator Lindsey Graham says, "Judge Alito, I am sorry that you and your family have to go through this."
Really, Senator? Go through WHAT exactly? A vigorous vetting of a man who has been nominated for a lifetime appointment to the most powerful court in the land? Maybe we should just flip a coin next time.

It looks like Alito's confirmation is in good shape.
If he is indeed confirmed, does this mean:
1. Bush is strong; 2. The democrats are weak, or; 3. Both?

To Anonymous, I would say "both" to that one. My hunch is he will be confirmed.
All that Alito's confirmation have the potential to be is: people who voted for Bush deserve the future that is awaiting for them, lost of jobs over manufacturing in China -Wall-mart style- higer taxes for the poor while more tax breaks for the real rich (and not those morons that say "I have a job and screw the poor")lost of rights for minorities, sexual, and racial, while the economic minority will continue ruling, more funding for "abstinence only programs" now endorsed by the new and draconian supreme court, bringing with it more AIDS and Sexualy transmited diseases for the young, and the potential growth of the "ex-gay ministry" cancer, increasing unwanted pregnancies, and the lost of an already damaged ecosystem from Alaska to the Caribean... any questions?
