State Senator Robert Hagan (D-Ohio) says he will introduce legislation to ban Republican couples from adopting children. According to Hagan, "credible research" shows that adopted children raised in GOP households are more at risk for developing "emotional problems, social stigmas, inflated egos, and alarming lack of tolerance for others they deem different than themselves and an air of overconfidence to mask their insecurities." Hagan agrees there is no scientific evidence backing his claims about Republican parents -- just, as Hagan notes, there is none backing State Representative Ron Hood's (R) bill banning gay parents from adopting.
Hood claims children purportedly suffer from emotional "harm" when they are adopted by gay couples. Hagen admits he created his proposal to mock Hood's proposed ban on gay adoption in a way that people would see the "blatantly discriminatory and extremely divisive" nature of the bill. The GOP House leadership does not support Hood's proposal.

Our infrastructure crumbles, our cities flood, children and the elderly go hungry and without health care, the economy is in the toilet, people are dipping into their savings to make ends meet, the air and water are more polluted than ever and the roads have so many potholes it's like driving on a washboard and all these mofo asshole republicans can spend time on his persecuting gay people who only want to make life better for someone else's throw-away children. All of you who voted for them are accomplices in crime and child abusers by default. Gary (NJ)

Interesting.
Perhaps if he's able to present positive, credible and undisputed evidence that kids will not be harmed by being adopted into a GLBT relationship (as well as testimony from others, such as Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who's long said that she sees no problem with lesbian couples adopting older, hard-to-place kids) he can win approval of it?
Good to see politicians, particularly democrats in today's culture, supporting adoption...means less abortions, hopefully. Thanks for the link, Wayne.

I think it sounds like a great idea. . .after all, as Kurt knows, it isn't necessary to present undisputed evidence in order to demand someone's else be deprived of rights.
And the argument for banning Republicans from adoption is rather easy - they are predisposed to membership in dominionist organizations, advocate cult brainwashing of children which can result in violence against others; advocate constitutional reform to restrict the rights of other Americans. There is a growing list of Republican officials whose dysfunctional sexual lives are in direct conflict with mainstream values, there is evidence of a growing culture of corruption that may be traced to deficiencies in upbringing, and a strange number of conservative activists seem to keep having gay children which, for some reason, they refuse to give up to reparative therapy programs. And, if we follow general Republican thinking, the acts of an individual reflect the realities of the whole, which is why they advocate legislation restricting the rights of gay Americans. I'd be happy to sign a petition drive - children need to be protected from being exposed to a corruptive and confusing lifestyle which strives to turn American into a theocratic dictatorship.

Good to see someone making a move to expose the stupidity of these bigots intentions.
These people say this is not blatant discrimination against gay people and is for the benefit of children. They say the real reason they want to ban gay adoption is that "children deserve a mother and a father".
I'd like to see someone call their bluff and change the bill to ban adoption by all single people. Then we'll see who really believes this "mother and father" stuff.

Sorry....but I forgot to laugh at the idea of credibility from entertainer "Dr." Laura.
One of the things I find most intriguing about the Right is that they demand complete validation for every fantasy they create, and then violently reject anything else.
But they do have their ways of squashing free speech. For all their complaints that the "liberals" inhibit their rights, they love to usher in little "morality" excuses to quash any points of view which don't agree with their religiously correct statements. Note the restriction on gays using billboards in those Georgia counties. . .no free speech issue there - they just hide behind "standards" and "morality."
