(Chad Allen) The evangelical film company Every Tribe Entertainment hired openly gay actor Chad Allen to star in the film "End of the Spear." The film relates the true story of five American missionaries who were killed in 1956 by an indigenous tribe in Ecuador. The missionaries' families ultimately converted the tribe to Christianity, and forgave and befriended the killers.
Well, as one might guess, the Neo-Puritans are apoplectic - some even threatening violence. One Web log, nossobrii.blogspot .com, written by Kevin T. Bauder, president of Central Baptist Seminary in Minneapolis, stated in a Jan. 13 entry:
"Granted, we must not overreact. And it would probably be an overreaction to firebomb these men's houses. But what they have done is no mistake. It is a calculated strategy."
According to the New York Times, Greg Clifford, chief operating officer of Every Tribe, said the company, based in Oklahoma, had alerted the F.B.I. there about the Web log.
The opposition to the film is led by Rev. Jason Janz, who upbraided the filmmakers for casting Allen. More than 100 pastors of churches across the country signed a letter drafted by Janz and addressed to Every Tribe expressing their dismay in the casting of Allen. Some evangelicals have even boycotted the film.
Well, there you have it folks. The far right's true agenda is excluding gay people from society. They are even willing to discriminate against an actor who willingly participated in a Christian film, that would have only glamorized their cause.
As for Allen, I wish him the best. I met him once in Chicago and he was an incredibly nice man. He also is an excellent spokesperson for gay issues and we are lucky to have him.

You know what? You people say you don't have a homosexual agenda, but the facts say that you do.
First, the queers infiltrated the Oscars and highjacked the awards ceremony with perverted picture shows.
Now, you people can't even keep your dirty hands off Christian films.
Where does it end? Where does it stop? When will people of God rise up and return you people to the closet?
When does it stop? It stops when gays and lesbians are given full equality. That's the agenda. And you haven't even seen Brokeback Mountain, so you have no clue. You're just a typical southern bigot who wants a certain group of people to be considered "less than" in society.
If Jesus came back today, he's smack you upside the head and say, "I said LOVE your neighbor, you imbecile!" How disgraceful that you won't go to see a movie merely because the lead actor happens to be gay.
Society is moving beyond you bigoted Jesus freaks, thank God Almighty! Your lives are so empty and impotent that you have to put your nose into everyone else's business and tell others how to live while your own communities are cesspools of poverty and ignorance. What a joke!
You're just pissed because gays and supremely more talented and able than you could ever be. Your envy and resentment is noxious and putrid. You and people like you don't know a damn thing about real spirituality, grace, compassion or social justice. You may couch your ignorance in the cloak of religion, but the fact is that we all see through you.

Right on chris!! No offense to Chad Allen, but how many people would want to go see some crappy movie about 'primitive' people having their culture ruined by 'christian' missionaries? Ask the native people of north and south america how helpful the missionaries were to them (the ones that are left that is). I dont know why so many people still think this is ok or admirable. How would fundies like arnie feel if their hick towns were invaded by pagans who tried to convert them to the TRUE Gods and Goddesses. Arnie, if you're such a good christian, why dont you find a tribe of head-hunters and try to 'harvest their souls for Jesus'. If we're lucky, they'll have you for lunch with fava beans and of course a good chianti. Gary (NJ)

Dear "Arnie" and "Mary Sue."
Let me introduce you to a quaint little concept that we in the real world like to call "logic." Let's suppose that, indeed, us queers are running everything. I guess we took everything away from the Jews, then? Anyway, if we truly WERE running everything, why would a film like "The End Of The Spear", a film with virtually NO commerical viability, starring NO "name" actors, and containing an overwhelming message of "Christianity! FUCK YEAH!" even get made in the first place? If us queers, who as you know are all goddless hedonist Satan-worshippers who eat babies, were truly in charge, this film would have gotten shot down before the first camera started rolling in favor of films like "Brokeback Mountain 2: Electric Boogalo." At the very least, the movie would have been a scathing attack AGAINST Christianity, not an endorsement for it.
But "Arnie" does have a point. US faggots DO have a homosexual agenda. I'm risking my life by telling you, and the Council will revoke my license for sure, but I'm going to tell you exactly what it is. You ready? The insidious gay agenda is...
We want you to leave us the fuck alone and to be treated like normal human beings with the same rights that YOU take for granted. THAT'S the gay agenda.
It is sad that a person's talented portrayal should be measured in their sexuality. I am a gay Christian, who is extreemly embarassed by this continued attack from ignorant people who refuse to see the truth that homosexuality is part of life and it is indeed possible to be Christian and gay. so, realize that hate is not a Christian attribute. If it were, we would all be in trouble and Jesus would have died for nothing. Fundies: Work on whats important and stop picking on us who simply want to live fully and abuntantly!
I grew up in South Carolina and Arnie just reminded me of why I left - the pervasive ignorance and smug, self-satisfied bigotry. Ultimately, though, the nationwide commercial success of Brokeback Mountain is just one more sign that the religious right has lost the so-called culture wars.

"...return you people to the closet"?
Methinks "Arnie" is impersonating what he thinks is a "Christian" just to get you angry.
Be cautious...anyone can pretend to be anyone on these boards...

I agree, Chad is an excellent spokesperson for the gay community. All too often, discussions and debates that affect our lives are carried out without our input and a lazy media seldom questions bullshit rhetoric passed off as "facts". I applaud Chad for taking this role as an actor, I hope he gets recognized for it. Oh, and, Arnie, we do have an agenda, you are 100% correct. That agenda is to be treated with dignity and respect and to not be harrassed by people such as yourself. Go live in a closet for the rest of your life and mind your own business.
