In response to the Soul Force Equality Ride, which is challenging bigotry at religious colleges across America, the American Family Association launched a fierce attack. AFA founder Donald Wildmon, a known liar, spewed myths about the income of gay people (much like the Nazi's used to do against Jews) and misrepresented gay life.
-- Please download NGLTF's study, "Income Inflation: The Myth of Affluence Among Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Americans. Scroll down the page to find it.--
Folks, listen to the radio clip recorded by Media Matters, to hear unadulterated hate and ignorance by the redneck radio host.

That little diatribe should be broadcast on CNN. Why not even have Larry King interview Mr. Wildmon. I've never heard him speak before but he reminds me of that Amway con artist, Dexter Yeager who warned Ambot females not to get their hair done at a gay hairdresser because "the queers were after their husbands". He should go work for the Phelps. Someone needs to get him on National Television and get him into an anti-Jewish tirade, at least half of the population would be disgusted by that, not to mention his vile homophobia. What a disgusting creep of a man (I use that term rather loosely).

Does being gay make you rich, or does being rich make you gay? People who want to stay straight should send me all their money, just to be on the safe side. -Tara

The AFA broadcast was a joke. Talk about bearing false witness against your (gay) neighbors! Wildmon quickly characterized the Equality Ride as an effort by gay activists to destroy Christianity ITSELF. How ridiculous and said that this poor, uneducated man equates homophobia with Jesus. How do these people sleep at night?

I must say, Wildmon has amazing cock-sucking lips. I hope to meet him at a gloryhole one day.
A.J., get a life. You're obviously some country hick who thinks you're being funny. But you're just plain gross.

I think Wild-man is into bestiality. And with those lips it was probably the republican elephant! Ewwww, he's nasty. Gary (NJ)

There has been some "photoshopping" on that picture. Google "Donald Wildmon" and you can find the original image pretty easily.

We should boycott Wildmon and his American Fascist Association. Wait a minute...we are already doing that. Sorry. Well, I want to run him and his followers over with a Ford F-150. The hell with the anti-corporate AFA with their boycotts on Ford, Cadbury-Schweppes, Dial Corporation, and others who do not conform with the homophobic fascist agenda.
I highly doubt that Ford is going to cave to this band of morons. Here is an email I received during their last pathetic little tirade:
Thank you for writing.
At Ford we value diversity among all of our constituents and pride ourselves on strong and clear values – respect for our customers, communities, employees, suppliers and dealers; acceptance of our differences; inclusion of different people with different perspectives; and integrity to always do the right thing. We value all people – regardless of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and cultural or physical differences. This is a strong commitment we intend to carry forward with no exception. We are pleased to clear up any misperceptions and get back to doing what we do best - building the best cars and trucks in America.
Thank you again for contacting Ford.
Respectfully, Customer Relationship Center Ford Motor Company
We should encourage Mr. Wildmon to keep up his boycotts. This man needs to be on CNN now. He has an important message to share with America before it falls apart: that the religous right in this country is certifiably insane and needs to be taken out of their positions of power right now!

I have to agree with my fellow posters who have pointed out that exposure and publicity is exactly what these groups need. For years Fred Phelps carried out his *mission* of anti-gay hate and rhetoric but it wasn't until he protested center stage at Mathew Shepherd's funeral that most Americans got to see this vicious group for who and what they truly are - a hate group masquerading as a church.
I say bring on the publicity and shine some light on these creatures. Once the majority of Americans see their vicious anti-gay - anti-semitic - anti-anti attitudes they will be relegated to non-issue status like their cousins the KKK.
Why do you people have to be so in your face about your SIN??
We don't care what you do, just do it behind closed doors. That is the solution to your problems. But if you do it and flaunt it in our faces, of course we are going to get mad. We are Christians, after all.
Mr DE, Nobody is in your face about anything. What part of mutual respect do you not understand? Please refrain from using the term SIN unless you are willing to treat all SIN equally, which christians clearly do not. Adultery, shell fish, idolatry, hyprocrisy, bearing false witness certainly come to mind. Just for your enlightenment, many gay people are christians as well. You may even have a gay person in your life whether or not you know it. Maybe you would like to be a christian behind closed doors and spare all of us your utter ignorance and hypocrisy.

D.E.,
A person's sexual orientation is not just what they do behind closed doors. It involves who you committ your life to, legal ramifications re: relationships, adoption, etc.
If you are a heterosexual - do you have to keep your relationship or marriage in the closet?
Every Ash Wednesday I see people walking around with ashes on their foreheads. It absolutely disgusts me! I don't care if you people get ashes smeared on yourselves at a church service, but please do us all a favor and wash them off before you come out into public!

DE said, "...of course we are going to get mad. We are Christians, after all."
You know nothing of the Christ you claim to follow and drag His name through the mud.
Maybe you shouldn't flaunt your "faith" in our face.
Your worthless values and the culture of fear and ignorance are the reasons why gays are causing a backlash (in other words...flaunting). They need to represent.

"We are Christians, after all."
You know, if you're going to be a fake "Christian" poster you could do a much better job of it.

Behind The Tone interviews Haven Herrin, co-director of the Soul Force Equality Ride Like the Freedom Rides of the 50's and 60's, the Soul Force Equality Ride is a student-led effort that takes young adults into epicenters of intolerance and oppression to make a better tomorrow. In going on this journey, the Equality Riders draw inspiration from those Freedom Riders over forty years ago.
At each stop along the route, the Equality Riders will present a powerful case for schools and students to accept their fellow gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender classmates.
It's an amazing interview you won't want to miss.
