Tennessee state representative Debra Young Maggart, a Republican from Hendersonville, said most homosexual couples are unfit to parent, and that those couples have "numerous emotional dysfunctions and psychological issues."
"We also have seen evidence that homosexual couples prey on young males and have in some instances adopted them in order to have unfretted access to subject them to a life of molestation and sexual abuse," she said in a letter. "Some of the evidence we were presented showed that lesbian and gaycouples have a higher rate of breaking up than heterosexual coupes as well as higher rates of promiscuity outside of their relationships."
The so-called evidence came from hate group Focus on the Family,which meant it was either discredited or lacked context. Focus has long manipulated research to fit its anti-gay agenda. Indeed, they have used the work of Paul Cameron who was kicked out of the APA for malpractice. To use such shoddy work is neither moral nor Christian.
In the old days, we could safely assume that most people simply were ignorant and lacked information. But today, with modern communications, people like Maggert who spout such crap are willfully distorting the truth to advance a prehistoric agenda. They have no regard for the facts and will twist reality and hurt people with no conscience. This is simply depravity in the veil of values. It is sad that some people will do and say anything to maintain a belief system that is rotten to the core.

Wayne - The title of your post immediately caught my attention ... but I'm no longer *shocked* by anything a redneck neocon says.
Many stories have surfaced about rampant child abuse in heterosexual households. By using this twit's premise, heterosexuals adopt children to have unfettered access to abuse them and therefore are unfit parents. Do these types have no shame, using blatant lies and stereotyping to further a political cause? The tactic is becoming so old and it is truly shocking that supposedly intelligent people actually believe this shit without checking an facts for themselves.

I looked up Debra Maggart on the Internet and her picture looks like she's still of child-bearing age. My own screed is that someone that ignorant should be forced sterilized lest she pass her stupidity genes on to others.
I'm sure if I look hard enough I can find evidence to back up my position. Oh, that's right, until the 1970's the Commonwealth of Virginia sterilized those it considered mentally deficient. I'll just look up their justification and recycle it.

I guess she neglected the research that showed children raised by lesbian mothers were BETTER adjusted and more tolerant and sophisticated than kids from 'traditional' families. The Sumner County Democratic Party is proud to have Patrick Gardner opposing Maggart. It is true that Hendersonville TN is the epitome of "red"...think 8000 member Southern Baptist mega-churches, home of the Trinity Broadcast Network, people with not just one, but three Bush stickers on their cars. But, we have two choices. We can sit back and write our chances off before the race is even run or we can field candidates, put the time in and run the best races we can.
