Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has vowed to resist increasing international pressure over the country's nuclear program.
"No power" could take away nuclear technology, he told a crowd of thousands in Gorgan, northern Iran.
It looks as though the U.S. may have to step in and handle this matter militarily, as Iran is resisting all reasonable diplomacy. A smart Democrat running for president will outflank Bush on the right and say that, "If I am elected president, there will not be a nuclear Iran."
Sadly, Bush has damaged his credibility and spread our troops so thin that Iran believes they can proceed, just as North Korea had. The Bush doctrine on war has clearly made us weaker as a nation and less likely to contain nuclear or terrorist threats.
And the nuclear deal with India? I still can't figure out the wisdom of that. It has made our world a much more dangerous place by giving a green light to nations that want to build atomic arsenals.
4 Comments:
Bush's deal with India has the potential to be tremendous for us and against Iran. Here's why:
1 - It should give us access & monitoring of India's nuclear program, without the bureaucracy & corruption of the UN.
2 - It promotes the use of nuclear energy...in an accelerating industrial economy, lessening demand for fossil fuels, and in turn lowering the costs for all. Beats the hell out of ethanol and wind power in a practical sense.
3 - It will only lead to far greater access to India's economy at all levels, which Wall Street, and the average American investor, will love.
4 - It encourages diplomacy between India & Pakistan (as well as strengthens our relationship with both parties, which will assist us as an arbiter in conflict) by reducing nuclear tensions in the region.
5 - It provides a model by which Iran looks more the rogue lunatic, isolating them at the UN.
6 - It could well lead to a future base of operations in the region outside of Muslim countries, a source of much strife and propaganda tool for those that refer to us as occupiers and/or crusaders.
7 - It will counterbalance Chinese influence in south Asia, and greatly increase our capabilities in any conflict over Taiwan/North Korea.
...because Bush HAS no opposition that has any coherent policy on what to do about terrorism.

yeah, lying us into a war, bankrupting the country, promoting and defending torture, illegal wiretaps and selling our port security to the UAE is a real coherent policy! If he had paid attention to the intelligence that clinton/gore left behind like "Osama bin laden determined to strike within the united states" instead of his usual dismissive arrogance, perhaps 9/11 never would have happened in the first place. Kurtsy, you drank the kool-aid a long time ago. gary (NJ)
