President Bush was speaking in North Carolina in front of his normal ass kissing crowd, when he took a question from a disgruntled citizen. (You know, the type of person representing 2/3 of America) The exchange is worth checking out.
This rare confrontation came on the heels of a drop in Bush's poll numbers following the revealation that he leaked classified information in a political effort to bolster his case for war in Iraq. Bush is about two points more popular than Saddam Hussein, and is slightly less competent. Why did it take America so long to figure out that the President is an unmitigated disaster?
6 Comments:
It surprises me that this confrontation took place in my home state of North Carolina. Never in a million years would I have thought a Tar Heel would have stood up to Bush.
Inside all of these pre-planned and heavily scripted media blitzes, there is always something missing: reality. Hats off to this guy - he said what the rest of America is (finally) thinking.

I heard this guy (Harry Taylor) looks remarkably like the man in the Norman Rockwell painting called 'Freedom of Speech.' Way to go Harry!! I saw this clip and while Mr Taylor was politely giving bush a richly deserved dressing down, the rat-bastard bush had his usual arrogant, hateful, thugish look on his face; like some lowlife who was about to start a barroom brawl. I guess he needed another drink, or another line of coke. Gary (NJ)

Some at the Democratic Underground are already speculating whether this man was a "Karl Rove 'plant'". (You think he looks like the "Freedom of speech" guy just by coincidence?)
15 minutes of fame is better than a lifetime of notoriety! And yes i'm sure it was a 'coincidence'. Why would rove plant someone to make his pet look even dumber meaner and more rotten (which he did) than he already does? Taylor came across with grace and honesty and TRUTH for a change (an unheard of thing when ratboy bush is in the room). B. Queer

Wayne,
if you spent 1/2 the time you bash George W. Bush advising the GLBT people in Iraq, with your expertise on public relations, about how not only to handle but to KEEP their ever-increasing freedom you would be doing them an incredible favor.
Have mistakes been made? Yes. But I guarantee you that the Iraqi people (those who weren't Ba'athists) would once again invite the U.S. in to overthrow Saddam in a heartbeat. They're realizing more and more that their future is in their hands, not the hands of a few people i.e. Saddam.
They have tasted freedom and democracy and they're going to want more. And that will ultimately be better for the gay people in Iraq and the middle east.
Are you sure you want to be missing this genuinely golden opportunity to help your brothers and sisters over there?

Questioning,
If you scroll down a little bit, you will see that Wayne wrote a very long post on GLBT people in the Middle East. Of course, Wayne doesn't talk about the same thing every day because that would be boring, so now he is talking about this guy standing up to Bush.
