The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth, people with direct knowledge of the arrangement told USA TODAY.
This is what happens when the extreme right teams up with a dolt like Bush and a paranoid madman like Cheney. America voted its fears in 2004, so we should not be surprised that we now have a nosy, fear-based government. I don't know about you, but I don't trust this Bush crowd with personal or private information. It is searingly ironic that the more the Administration talks about freedom and liberty, the less we have.

So if I follow the logic…gee, we aren't doing anything illegal even though we aren't using the FISA system…and gee, we are talking to "some" members of congress…but they can't tell you anything because the information is limited and totally classified….and gee, we are ok with some investigative oversight…but unfortunately we can't grant security clearance to the investigators.
Gee…it looks to me like we have a dictator in charge. He breaks the rules, he rewrites the rules, he changes the rules, and he answers to no one.
I only hope that we can finish the job of exporting our "democracy" to Iraq and the rest of the oppressed world so they can have the same rights that we do...yea, right!
And what will the phone companies get in return--we know they would LOVE to take over the internet and start charging for 'premium service'. Controlling the flow of information is the new holy grail for the fascist right; powerful liberal bloggers like Daily Kos and others DO influence politics and voters and they know this. The mainstream news has sold out and abandoned any semblance of journalistic integrity. If our phone calls are no longer private and everything you read, write, view, or buy online is next--1984 has arrived! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

"everything you read, write, view, or buy online is next"
NEXT???
They are already demanding that search engines provide the gov't (ie Bush & pals) with what Americans are searching - all in the name of "protecting the children" from porn. The ONLY provider that said "wait a minute" was google.
And this from the group who thought that the Berkely law students group was a threat to national security because they oppose DADT and call themselves OUTlaws (ooooo, scary).
Since they've now gone after your private internet activity, your private organizations, your private phone calls, and your mail, the only "next" I can think of is your credit cards.
I wouldn't be surprised if any day now we find out that they are monitoring Visa and MasterCard in the name of national security. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make Von's tell them what you're buying at the grocery store (I'm sure you can make SOME excuse about protecting something or other).
The Data Warehouses are growing and there is not one single shred of information about an individual's private life that is not being pumped into the Tables of those massive collections of bits and bytes.
Your Health records, tax records, education records, credit card records, banking records, memberships, every electronic monetary transaction that you ever make, and if you are lucky enough to own a newer model mobile ... your every movement is being tracked by GPS ... and keep an eye out for the Federal ID legislation to begin to kick in and we convert to a national ID system equipped with RFID (eventually-IMO).
I encourage everyone who supports Wayne's blog to goto the EFF.org website - join up and keep abreast of the fight for Electronic Rights.
I would have to disagree with your point that you make concerning the 2004 election. This president did NOT win the 2004 or the 2000 election. They were clearly stolen with help of touch screen technology and cutting down of the numbers of said machines in areas that were clearly on the Dems side.

9/11 was the best thing for the fascist police state neocons---if we dont have another terrorist attack before Nov., I wouldnt be surprised if they create one. By the way, the airliner that 'crashed' in the field in PA on 9/11 WAS shot down and not brought down by the people on board as is alleged. I was recently talking to someone who lives out there and some of her neighbors who own horses were outside when it happened and saw the flash around the jet before it crashed into the field. Their testimony was quickly hushed from all news sources.
