Macy's department store has altered a window display marking Boston's gay pride week after a group that opposes gay marriage complained it was offensive.
Exactly how stupid is Macys? First, it is a GAY GAY GAY store. Right wingers don't shop there. Second, most of the big department stores are in large cities where normal people don't give a damn about the issue. Third, Macy's PR team should be fired for incompetence. If Macy's does not reverse course, they will find they have made a terrible blunder.
it is bad enough that Marshall Fields is turning into Macy's, now they think they can dis gays. screw them, nordstrums here i come.

FYI: Seeking info on Macy's (Federated Dept Stores)
I ran across a post on Towleroad with a link to the MassEquality website where they have a form setup that will send an email directly to Terry Lundgren, Chairman, CEO and President of Federated Department Stores, Inc.
http://www.massequality.org/action/macy.php
NOTE: I found email addresses for Terry Lungren and other Federated Execs and sent a letter several days ago -- but unfortunately these mailboxes are bouncing and returning "Delivery Delay" warnings.
The president of the anti-gay hate group that marshalled a few thousand ignoramuses to contact Macy's in protest of the manequins said, "They have enlarged breasts for goodness sakes, it's disgusting". Someone needs to tell the idiot that there is no such thing as a "gay manequin", that all of Macy's male manequins have that composition. He is a true imbecile, and this is homophobia plain and simple. Macy's has made a big, big mistake. Their capitulation was spineless and cowardly.

no, anonymous, this IS about Macy*s
I care about them because I shop there. Or, rather, I did.
1. I hate it when the "concerned Christians" whine about some store display in Boston (which is the capital of the only state that allows gay marriage). If it happened at some red-state hick town, then that's different. But this is in a liberal city that the church nazis are desperately trying to conquer, but could not.
2. Federated Department Stores had been the target of church nazis since the "happy holidays" thing. Why did they sell out to that Wal-Mart trash, anyway?

no, timothy, it is not about macy's. they just happened to be in the forground of some misguided zealots. those zealots did not go further into the sponsorship of the pride week - as they should have if they were going to be thorough and complete in their contention. but they aren't. they are just whining crying babies who have nothing better to do. macy's just wanted them to go away. me too.

This is Macy's response to my letter:
Macy's has a long-standing and respected history of support for diversity. Our company philosophy is deeply rooted in diversity and inclusiveness. As such, we support a variety of causes in the communities that we serve. Our commitment and celebration of Gay Pride has been traditionally commemorated in our window displays. Our annual support of Gay Pride Week in Boston and in other cities where we operate clearly demonstrates our commitment to diversity. Macy's commitment to diversity will continue to be an important part of our company and community outreach as we celebrate Gay Pride festivities this month and in the future.
Sincerely,

If Macy's had wanted any credibility for making this ridiculous decision, they should have demanded that Camenkar(sp.)come into the store, plant his ass in the display window, remove his shirt and show us exactly what manboobs are supposed to look like. ..
After all, I get the feeling his are closer to the mannequins that were removed - and that his disgust reflected his own expression when he looks into the mirror.

anonymous: "no, timothy, it is not about macy's. they just happened to be in the forground of some misguided zealots."
Wrong, again. Article 8 isn't just some misguided zealots. These folk make it their life's mission to harm gay people. Perhaps you've been living under a rock and don't know about their activism and the vile hatred they spew but a simple google search should tell you plenty. They are a hate group.
And Macy*s didn't "just happen" to find themselves in the forefront. They chose to respond to Carmenker's craziness by kowtowing to him. That makes it about them.
If Macy*s said "gosh, we want to support Black History Month but the KKK doesn't want us to so we'll compromise by removing all black mannequins from display", the citizens of Boston would have burned Macy*s to the ground (and I'd have joined them).
When you give in to evil, as Macy*s has done, and pretend that it's just a happy compromise, it shows what you are made of. So, yeah, this is about Macy's.
When Bush pushed the Marriage Protection Amendment earlier this month we didn't say "oh, but he only pushed it a little" or "but he has to appease the right-wing, and it won't pass anyway" or "he's not so bad, he hasn't mentioned it since 2004". No, we said "Bush is bowing to evil extremists, and that - in and of itself - is evil".
So that's what I'm saying to Macy*s: These people spend time and money doing anything they can to make my life more difficult. If they could, they would incarcerate all gay people. And you are compromising with these evil people and putting their concerns above mine. And that, Macy*s, makes you evil as well.
Timothy
(well, actually, I'm not saying anything to them because the e-mail I sent came back as undeliverable. I guess I'll have to give them the message another way, by selecting other retailers).

Timothy,
Please don't refer it as the Marriage Protection Amendment. You are only pandering to the anti-gay folk.
It's the Federal Marriage Amendment. YOU can say it is the anti-gay marriage amendment. But NEVER NEVER say: Marriage Protection Amendment.
I'm not all het up about what the wing-nuts call it. They can call it the Special Holy Instrument of Truth, for all I care. I use MPA because that's the current name they use (althought the other acronym would be more accurate).
And I'd rather discredit their claims and biases and hatred while using their language than get sidetracked on shouting back and forth about the name. I'd rather give the term "marriage protection" a bad name than be afraid of it.
Protests and complaints mean nothing unless followed by action. At all Prides next year, hand out flyers for a boycott.
