The senator hit the nail on the head on NBC's Meet The Press when he said:
"I cannot understand why the structure of the Democratic Party, the consultants that are here in Washington, constantly advise Democrats not to take a strong stand. This election could turn on this Iraq issue, in fact, the 2006 election, and maybe even 2008. The party that says we have a reasonable plan to bring the troops home by this date and to refocus on the anti-terrorism issue is the party that will win. And I believe that my political instincts tell me..."
What other Democrat would tell the truth like Feingold? He is clearly the best candidate in the pack.

I saw "Meet the Press" with Sen. Feingold; he made so much sense that even a Republican should find him convincing. And I guess they do; the news this morning brings word that Boy George now wants to withdraw 7,000 troops by October. October, eh? Hmmmm; How Conve-e-e-e-nient! as the Church Lady would say.
If the public is as stupid as Karl Rove seems to think, then they deserve everything they'll get from the Republicans.

Exactly! As one pundit put it, when will the Dems get their voice back--it's as if they're suffering from abused spouse syndrome after so many years of being powerless and hammered by the republicans. Methinks it's time for the 'burning bed'!

To say, "well yes I do believe the President has committed impeachable offenses but it may not be good for America to impeach him" is to say either that you really don't believe the President committed any impeachable offenses or it is to say it is not politically expedient to impeach him at this time. And the only reason it is not expedient to impeach the President at this time is because you don't have the votes to do it. You don't have the votes to do it because the American people disagree with you Senator Feingold.
It is not politically expedient because it is only you and the radical left wing of your party who would love to impeach the President. You, however, are smart enough to know that you do not have the backing of the American people so it is you Senator and your radical, leftist friends who are out of step with the American people. You want to sound tough and macho by talking up impeachment but you dare not cross the line into action because you know you would loose--you wouldn't even carry a majority of your party given how overwhelmingly they vote to support the war.
You are hustling Feingold, you are hustling but you simply are not skillful enough to pull it off .

Hey, anon #3, can you say "left wing" with out saying "radical?" Can you say "democrat" without saying "liberal," "left," or "radical?"
Anon #3 is dreaming--the Dems dont have the power YET to do *anything* substantive, let alone impeach the latest scion from the bush crime family. And no Feingold is not a RADICAL, he represents what most middle class and poor americans *really* want and need--fair wages, education, health care, a clean environment, FAIR taxation and civil liberties for all. If you think that's RADICAL, YOU'RE the extremist, not he. Gary (NJ)

He didn't even have the courage to stay in the well of the senate while his censure bill was in play earlier this year.

When defending the Constitution against the usurpations of the Executive becomes "radical, letist" and "out of step with the American people", then we know that the abyss of fascism looms.
To be sure, it will have neither goosestepping troops on parade, nor "Il Duce" delivering hours-long harangues while dressed up in an operatic uniform. That is the trouble. If it came so obviously marked, it would be recognized for what it was. No, instead it speaks with folksy accents and in the language of Christian piety. Whether we will turn aside from our present sleepwalk towards the edge is the question of the moment.
