After California recently passed a pro-gay law helping children avoid abuse in the classroom, the home school industry didn't take long to exploit the situation. Home School gurus are now working overtime to terrify Christian parents into entering their spooky programs. One tactic is to demand that all fundamentalist families in the state yank their kids out of school.
"'Heck no, our kids won't go!' should be the rallying cry of Christian parents this week as school starts, instead of following the broad road of perversion and destruction that California schools are offering," Charles B. Lowers, the executive director of the anti-family Considering Homeschool organization told WorldNutDaily.
Oh, wouldn't that be a shame, public school without jerks and self-righteous thugs. How will the school system ever survive? Lowers, if you are reading this, please let my readers know where we should send our parting gifts!

Whether they're homeschooled or allowed to attend a private or semi-private school designed specifically for them, like the Harvey Milk High School in New York City, I wish all LGBT youth had a way to avoid public school education. There'll always be children of fundamentalist parents in public school, and they BRUTALIZE our kids! I speak from personal experience . . . nearly a decade of taunts, threats, ridicule and beatings, and the school administrators did next to nothing to stop it! Only through the grace of God did I make it to high school. No child should ever have to experience primary education like that! Bless you, Jane, for what you did to protect your son.

Plus our public education system isn't the best right now in America.
I live in a "fundamentalist" area and from what I've seen some of the smaller Christian schools are safer for minority kids than the public ones are, sadle.

Gay kids in a christian school? I doubt that's safer, psychologically anyway.

I would no more put my child in a private christian school than a public one. I went to a private school and the kids there were just as if not more so mean. I would home school with plenty of social activites outside just to keep an eye on what was going into my child's mind. The educational system in this country sucks! Private or otherwise.

i was homeschooled until I was 14, when I begged my parents to send me to public school for some sense of normalcy. My parents elected to teach my siblings and me from home for exactly the opposite reason from the homeschool trend of today. My parents were and are die-hard liberals and they didn't want us subjected to the conformity and intolerance that was the public school environment; still is, in my opinion. These fundies are pulling their kids from California schools because for once, they are not getting their way.
Once in public school, I found myself on more than one occasion (almost daily, infact) in fear for my safety. But all in all, I am grateful for my public school experience. It taught me to be able to handle strife and fear, and it introduced me to the greatest friends I will ever know.
The thing that I fear regarding the homeschooled kids of today, is that they will never know the real world. They are brainwashed at home, and then many are being sent to colleges where the brainwashing continues. And God-forbid one of them should end up gay. Imagine the psychological trauma with no outlet. These kids part of the future of our nation. I can only hope that something eventually opens their eyes.
