Two acquaintances of newly Jewish Senator George Allen of Virginia said today that he had used racially inflammatory language in the 1970's and 1980's, compounding allegations of racial insensitivity that have dogged his re-election campaign since he referred to a young Indian-American as "macaca" a few weeks ago. Mr. Allen said he had never used the language attributed to him by the acquaintances.
If the citizens of Virginia vote for this jerk, they ougt tobe ashamed of themselves.

Why WOULDN'T Virginians vote for George Allen? A majority of the white residents in the state think exactly like him. Southerners are not only remarkably exclusionary but are equally paranoid about "outsiders", and it only gets worse when race is thrown into the mix. It is precisely due to the very culture of the South which would elevate a close-minded hypocrite like George Allen to becoming Senator in the first place. That same culture will reelect him, because his fellow residents don't like "macacas" either.

I always thought George Allen was dumb as dirt. But, Virginia has lerched so far to the right that they might re-elect him anyway.
By the way, George Allen is from California. He's a faux-southern boy.

I was thinking the same thing Chris said. Virginia is definately for haters, not lovers. I know not all of the south is the same, but in the rural 'bad' areas; it's really bad. A friend of mine was traveling in one of those areas in his car and stopped at a small store/gas station. He went in to buy something and a group of people who looked like a cross between the Hills Have Eyes and Deliverance came out and were looking at his New York license plate and then back at him. He said he felt very unsafe, bought what we had to and got the hell outta there. The States may be legally United, but we are definately NOT 1 nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. An ideal yes, but far from the truth!

Agreed. Virginia is the most facist state in the union. My mother is from the Roanoke area. She left the state at 17. When we went for a recent family reunion and checked into our hotel room....Well, I can only say the check in woman was ugly. And I'm not talking looks.
