A new Marist poll finds "Hillary Rodham Clinton is popular within her party but could have trouble winning the presidency." According to the poll:
"The former first lady held a double-digit lead over possible rivals," but [f]orty-seven percent of registered voters said they would definitely not consider voting for" Clinton.
Thoughts on Hillary running for president? Can she win?

I think she can win, but I hope she doesn't make it through the primaries. If she's the nominee, I'll vote for her in the general election, reluctantly.
I don't think I'm alone on this one. I hear more cheering for Hillary to run from Republicans than from democrats. I hope Obama runs... and with a cool woman VP like Janet Napolitano (Gov of Arizona.) That would be a beautiful ticket. And Oprah would deliver 50% of the country's votes to them if they did it.
But in all likelihood, we'll get what's chosen for us by the establishment... Hillary or McCain. Is there really a choice there?

Unfortunately, if Hillary is the nominee, we'll have another Republic president. This country wouldn't elect a woman to the White House on a bet. And too many people dislike Hillary Clinton for their own reasons and no reason at all to vote for her.
And Regan, I agree with you. Too many of these spineless Democrats are trying to appeal to the christofascists, just to win votes. Hillary seems to be one of them. What happened to standing up for what's right in this country? What's so damn wrong with just saying "discrimination is wrong" and making it stick?
We need a heavy dose of what we had in the 60s: the willingness to take a stand and promote civil rights and tolerance and not back down until the bigots slink back under their rocks. We don't have it, and we'll never make any real progress until we find it.
I agree with Regan and Pat--she's just a political opportunist. I hope she doesnt run (I dont think she can win anyway, besides the XX chromosome 'problem'; she's too hated in the red states. But I'd still pick her over another republican. Gary (NJ)

Any politician who does not support full equality for the LGBT community does not and should not get our vote. Hilary Clinton does NOT support equality and never will, neither does her husband. I've had enough of empty promises and gay organizations making nice, and just where has it gotten us?? NOWHERE! Its time to hold their feet to the fire and confront them for once. They want our votes that badly, well...they've got to earn it, so far they haven't. As for that disgusting and offensive piece of civil union legislation in NJ, forget it, that's proof enough they're not for us. Separate and unequal doesn't work and never will.
Anyone who thinks Hillary can win an election with high 40's NEGATIVES is dreaming. And if they are dreaming, why are they dreaming of Hillary? I agree with another poster that this person is an opportunist.
And while Obama has a better personality, I do not think he has depth of experience this early in his career to lead the country.
The Democrats better make a serious effort to come up with a new face that looks better than the tired specimens they have in their storefront window right now or there will NOT be a Democrat in the WH in 2009. And if I had to bet, I would bet against these no-idea people that never have much of a plan for anything. And no I'm no repug-nant. I'm not giving any more money or effort to politicians like Hillary who do not fight the Christofascists with fresh smelling ideas or courage.

I'd like to be able to vote for Gore again.
So far 15,613 people think Vice President AL Gore should run as President of the United States, in 2008. Hopefully that number has increased. Please go to the link below, read the message to Al Gore and hopefully you too will sign the petition.
Then if you forward this on to those in your address book we will be able to convice Mr. Gore to put his running shoes on and become our Next President in 2008!!
Hillary is nothing but a political opportunist who will say and do anything to further her career. She will meet with any group, support any cause, champion any theory if it will increase her poll ratings. She has more than once turned her back on the liberal, progressive, and gay communities. I see no reason to support her in any way, shape, or form.
My mother just turned 55 last week. For her entire life, she was a die-hard, registered Democrat. In 2000, we had HUGE fights because I was voting for Nader and she was voting for Gore (I couldn't stomach Lieberman as VP). After the 2004 elections, and after seeing too much of Democrats like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, my mother became a registered independent.
