An Arlington congregation, High Point Church, volunteered to host a funeral Thursday, then reneged on the invitation when it became clear the dead soldiers homosexuality would be identified in the service. High Point is a nondenominational mega-congregation led by the Rev. Gary Simons.
Let's be clear, this is not a "church" but a hate house bereft of morals, integrity, decency or respect for the US military or regard for the victim's family. Basically, they maliciously kicked his family in the scrotum at a low point in their lives. They spit on his grave in the name of Jesus, of all people.
The pastor said that he could imagine a similar situation involving a different sin. Perhaps a mother who is a member of the church loses a son who is a thief or murderer, Mr. Simons said. The church would surely volunteer to hold a service, he said.
"But I don't think the mother would submit photos of her son murdering someone," he said. "That's a red light going off."
Any person who would still attend this heinous church is a despicable human being and spiritually corrupted. What a bunch of sad, sick extremist individuals. What a batch of lowlife, vomit-worthy, back-stabbing, heartless freaks. Have I made my opinion known? Mr. Sinclair, 46, died Monday. He was a native of Fort Worth, a Navy veteran who served in Desert Storm helping rescuers find downed pilots, and a singer in the Turtle Creek Chorale, said his mother, Eva Bowers.
He and his family were good people who clearly deserved better. But, the most laughable part of this whole drama is that after the pastor complicated and humiliated life for a suffering family in need, he pretended to be loving.
"Some of our people will be there at the memorial service," Mr. Simons said. "We tried to do the very best of our ability to express the love of Christ."
Has there ever been a group of people in world history who have so bastardized the word "love"? Has there ever been such a gaggle of transparent phonies?

I bet they're all gung-ho republicans too! Typical. With the exception of one christian denomination, I can' think of any that don't judge, contrary to the teaching of their leader Jesus Christ!

Wayne, AMEN! Your words are right on target and are, in fact, not harsh enough. What a bunch of reprobate scum bags. The leadership of this church are spiritual degenerates who aren't worthy to wipe the gum off the bottom of my shoe. Canceling a funeral for a Navy war hero because there are pictures in the funeral montage that show him hugging his loved ones? What trash these people are!!! UGGGH, I am sickened.

Absolutely vile. And people wonder why I don't like religion?

Amazing how religion divides people and turns otherwise rational people into heinous monsters with no heart for other human beings. That these people claim to have anything to do with God is a joke.

Let us all remember, these people are not followers of Christ, they are followers of fear men and women. What would Jesus Do? As a Christian who is gay, it saddens me to hear this - who would have thought? These people are void of any kind of love and grace!!! God help us - HELP THEM SEE THE LIGHT

Hopefully, the family finds a way to grieve their loss and forget what these hateful scum did to them. Over and over, society allows this trash to get away with "religious freedom" and not comply with anything moral such as respect for human dignity. A question to ask this bunch of bible belting back-stabbing hypocrites is if they review all "sins" before granting funerals. Afterall, they like to tell us that they too are "sinners". This should mean that nobody gets a funeral? Nobody deserves this type of treatment. This is equally as shameful as the Phelps freaks who attempt to strip families and deceased persons of their dignity by yelping that "god hates everything". If this bullshit were even true, these pious idiots I'm sure would be on the top of "gods" shit list. Absolutely unacceptable, why does the US allow this shit to go one?

As absurd as they are, I'm surprised none of them haven't banned white weddings! Traditionally, a bride getting married in white was supposed to mean that she is a virgin, but I'd hazzard a guess and say more than 95 percent aren't when they walk down the aisle. I've been to onel catholic wedding where the bride was already pregnant but not showing. Now how hypocritical is that, especially in the Catholic Church that prohibits sex before marriage? But dont' they all to some extent?

Is anyone really surprised by this action? C'mon folks - they are Christianist Sheeple hiding behind religion to justify their bigotry. And people wonder why I'm an atheist.

What I find most vile is the reverend's statement:
"We tried to do [to] the very best of our ability to express the love of Christ."
Interesting that expressing the love of Christ to the best of their ability means cancelling a funeral and kicking the grieving right where it hurts. Sorry, Christ didn't express love in that manner. The most fundamental guideline in Christianity is to follow and emulate Christ's example. What is so fucking hard about that, please somebody tell me!!! That was a rhetorical question/exclamation btw. Anyone interested in understanding why people just refuse to follow Jesus' example, read The Faith, a History of Christianity by Brian Moynahan. The answers as to why all the so called Christian cults, sects, and standard religions don't observe Jesus' teachings and guidance are included. Mind blowing and fact revealing! If there were reasons for divorcing oneself from the Christian faith, this book contains them all!

BG, what is also rather strange is that in the U.S. more people are believers than in any other western country. For a country with no state religion, its odd just how far religious fanaticism flourishes and even accepted, let alone allowed to infiltrate the political system, among others. More than 60% attend a religious service on a weekly basis, astounding. In the UK for example, barely 2% where there is state religion and far fewer believers, amazing.

No one stated the obvious. The name of High Point Church should be changed to Lowest Point Church. Like the limbo rock song -- how LOOOWWWW can they go?!

The reason the church changed their mind on the service was that the family wanted to glorify the man's homosexuality including a video clip and pictures of the man in a sexually explicit pose. I don't know any church that would honor that request heterosexual or homosexual. The man was not a member of the church and the church was willing to support this man but not glorify his homosexuality which the family would not agree to. The church for your information paid for the service to be held elswhere because it chose not to glorify the homosexual lifestyle. This is called freedom in the United states.

Wayne -- you completely encapsulated my feelings. These people bastardize the word "love," they rape Christ and his teachings (and yet still claim to be "Christians")... what a bunch of vile, appalling, repulsive people. It's people like these (and churches like these) that cause thousands of homosexuals to turn their backs on church and faith. I believe that we need to take religion and faith back from the right-wing freaks...

For anonymous, a quote directly from the husband of the deceased.
"On Tuesday morning, we gave the church a total of 83 various pictures of Cecil that were forwarded to us by various members of his family. Of those, not a single one showed a man hugging or kissing another man, nor were there any overtly homosexual references."
Where did you get YOUR information? could it have been from an anti-gay website, or perhaps from a member of that church?
How about this for you, sweetheart. This is one more attempt by you so called-christians to dehumanize gay people and place us outside the pale of decent behavior. "See how those fags are? Even at a funeral, they just can't stop fucking. sex. Sex Sex. that's all they ever think about. why, they aren't even decent enough to respect a church and its teachings.'
sick.
Love one another as i have loved you-- unless of course you're a sick fag, then anything goes.

"The reason the church changed their mind on the service was that the family wanted to glorify the man's homosexuality including a video clip and pictures of the man in a sexually explicit pose."
Assuming this is true (which is assuming a lot), does "sexually explicit pose" mean holding his partners hand? Posing arm-in-arm? Kissing his partner on the cheek?
I wish Pontius Pilate had let Jesus off with just a whipping and a warning--the world would have ended up a happier place, at least for gays.
