'I'm voting republican because I'm a student of WWII and always wondered what it would be like to live under a minority scapegoating fascist dictatorship that is in a perpetual state of war and obsesses over flags, lapel pins, armbands and the proper way to salute our Leader!'

Am neither a democrat or a republican, but am getting behind Obama to get the neo-fascists out. They've damaged our country beyond belief, both at home and abroad. Our economy is now owned by China, the war is costing $12 billion a month with no end in sight and the republicans and others say that we can't afford universal health care, neither do we need it; there is no equality for the majority of gay voters and taxpayers; we fight and die in their immoral, illegal wars and are kicked out if we admit who we are; kicked out if we happen to be gay and speak arabic or farsi; and some on the far right have the gall to ban us from marrying. Just what kind of a society have we become? Even though I'm not enamored of Obama or Clinton, I'll get behind Obama as a protest against a government that runs amok over our basic rights. If some of the Hillary supporters don't get behind Obama, then we may end up with another Florida debacle that we had in 2004 and the election will go to McCain, maybe not Florida but another state. Nobody is perfect, but a democrat in the White House is better than anything the GOP has to offer or ever will if you value freedom and equal justice for all.
Everything my hero Dennis Kucinich has said, has come to fruition. Its a tragedy that this brilliant man appealed to so few, probably one of the only remaining left wing democrats we have. He is where the Democratic party should have been 8 years ago. A man with incredible vision who wasn't tainted by the corporate conglomerates and military industrial complex and wasn't afraid to tell it like it is. I only hope that after November has come and gone, his 35 articles of impeachment will receive the full backing of the party and the voters alike.

Kucinich is a hero I agree.
In the meantime, it's not so much important that McCain is president - what's truly at stake is that if he wins he will stack the courts with more social conservatives. And they will spend the next several decades shredding the constitution into ribbons long after McCain is gone.
I'm not a Democrat either but I consistently vote Democrat in bigger elections because the Republican party is simply backwards on nearly all the issues, and it seems to be a general problem with the culture of their party. Of course there are individual exceptions. Not all Republicans are anti-gay for example, there are one or two who aren't raging homophobes, but opposition to gay equality is a core belief of the party as a whole. Same thing for nearly every issue, war, environmentalism, the economy and so on.
This movie covered a lot, but I would add that the Republican party by and large believes Christianity to be the one true religion and they are trying to convert our free democracy into a theocracy. They routinely disenfranchise and slander other religions. And they also have absolutely no regard for agnostics, atheists or other freethinkers, often blatantly saying that anyone who doesn't say they believe in a god is not an American.
(Which would make several of our founding fathers not really Americans).
I would have also mentioned their opposition to science including the censorship of data that contradicts their agendas; opposition to the teaching of evolution in favor of Christian mythology and philosophy being taught in science classes; as well as the absolute failure of abstinence-only education.
Unless radical changes happen I don't foresee supporting any Republican in the future.

Ehsto, I totally agree with all you are saying. If by some travesty McCain is elected, then the electorate deserves what it gets. If Catholic swing voters continue supporting these knuckle-dragons as they did in 2000 and 2004, then we're in deep trouble. It was they that gave Bush the presidency in the last election. Any party that is against abortion, gay equality and womens' issues is a magnet for them. Only today, Bishop Murphy called Governor Paterson's decision to recognize gay marriages performed elsewhere as valid is "just plain wrong". He suggested that Gov. Paterson was "subverting the democratic process", a mantra the GOP uses often, because he issued the order without consulting the state Senate or Assembly, or the public in general. He goes on to state.."sexual intimacy between persons of the same sex does not pass muster" and that "homosexual relationships do not serve the common good. They cannot do so because they contradict biological teleology and the natural law." He then said..."I fail to understand how" a homosexual union "can be called marriage...No matter how much some may with to apply the term 'marriage', it does not fit because if fails the test of truth and authenticity." What a hate monger! Then to add insult to injury, his diocesan spokesman Sean Dolan said Murphy "is not imposing his will. He is exercising his reponsibility as the shepherd of this diocese to teach the faith. That said", he added, "the message should not be misconstrued as an attack on the human dignity of homosexual people. The church teaches that we must treat homosexuals with dignity and love, as we would all God's children." What a load of bunk and hypocrisy! Sounds to me that the RC church DOES endorse candidates or parties that reflect its views, no matter how much they deny it. Its why that other evil piece of bovine excrement in the Vatican came here to agitate the marriage issue among other things. And they wonder why the Catholic church gets a bashing, but its ok to bash us. Hope William Donohue of the bigoted Catholic League catches this one.
