Wayne Besen will appear on Fox News Channel's O'Reilly Factor tonight at 8PM (EST) to discuss an offensive Snickers ad that was pulled from the airwaves after The Human Rights Campaign complained. In
the ad, a swishy speed walker is attacked by a machine gun wielding Mr. T in a truck who demands the walker "run like a real man." He fires on the guy until he “corrects” his running style.
"Such ads lead to
hate violence and send the wrong message to society," says Truth Wins Out Executive Director Wayne Besen.

What a juvenile stupid commercial. Only some pea-brained adolescent boys would think that was funny, and yes I could see how it would promote gay bashing. The Mars candy family are big time rightwing republicans anyway. Hershey's kiss anyone?

It really disappoints me that a commercial like this would even be made in this day and age. To use violence or the threat of violence against a human being because they do not fit rigid gender stereotypes, and thinking that doing so is somehow humorous, is appalling.

Wayne, be on your guard against O'Reilly. He has a habit of distorting and skewing the truth to suit his own agenda. The man is a bigot but you know that already. Remember how he became bent out of shape over two lesbians exchanging a simple kiss at a ball game not so long ago because children were present. Makes you wonder why they become so uncomfortable. The man needs to be reminded of his own bigotry and the sexual harassment case he was caught up in some time ago. He argues against marriage equality yet there he was, doing something that was contrary to his own marriage, ergo sexually propositioning another woman. He ended up settling out of court to avoid further embarassment, the pig that he is. He didn't care about anybody's children hearing or reading about it. So much for the "good catholic" that he claims to be. Nothing more than a hypocrite as well as a bigot.

LOL in case anybody hasn't picked up on that already.
And in other news, the sun came up today.

Get a life. For God sakes people there is so much more. Laugh, live, love and let it go! This is so not worth it. Hey Wayne, the commercial is funny! Laugh and stop forcing and pushing a relationship between this commercial and people who do horrible crimes. What a waist of time and energy.

O'Reilly was fair and Wayne woudl have to agree. Snickers are awesome candy bars. Chocolate, nugget, peanuts. It's a complete meal. The racewalker did run after the snickers machine gun fired on him. I didn't get a gay attitude here, it was a stupid commercial but anything Mr. T is in is stupid. Mr. Besen makes his living on this stuff. People who make a big deal about it are hypersensative. Stand up for real issues, not this stupid commercial.

I'm sorry I missed that. I agree with most of what O'Reilly says on any given topic, as I do with what Wayne Besen has to say. (Damn)

You were given an opportunity to promote your agenda and "lifestyle", but you blew it (pun intended). All by yourself, you put all homosexuals to shame.

Gimme a break! Appalling? Right winged? Promote gay bashing? No where in the commercial does it mention gays at all. It mentions speed walkers. Poking fun at someone doesn't make them "bashers". If the speed walkers don't like the commercial, then they can go through the paces, no pun intended, to file the proper complaint. Stop looking into something that isn't there. If the concern is whether or not speed walkers will be singled out to be "bashed", well... let the stand up for themslves! Just like your parents taught you to do. Don't tell me, your the same ones that don't keep score at your kids soccor game because "they are all winners"? Believe it or not, the world not all warm and fuzzy.

How sad that Mr Besen stoops to comment on such a trivial matter. By highlighting this he makes a mockery of legitimate homosexual concerns. There was no underlying message , no underlying threat. Sadly Besen gives credence to Gay haters by thrusting this innocent peurile advert into the news. Stop picking at straws. Straight folk have the right to laugh as much as anyone. Stop looking to be the victim at every turn.

Change the speedwalker to a female and there would be rioting and hysteria amounting to domestic violence issues being discussed. It was a hateful commercial because the runner was obviously being portrayed as a gay man running away. Subliminal hate. I don't want to hear it from anyone who disagrees. You are acting like people who tell african americans they are being too sensitive when it is they that are experiencing the effects of racism and hate. Be dismissive all you want, this ad was homophobic.

Hey guys : I never take easy offense. I think making a fuss over the use of the word "pansy" (in a past case) was unnecessary, for instance. (To me "pansy" means a wuss, whether straight or gay). But in this case I do think the Nike ads were homophobic. Maybe they wouldn't directly cause a queer-bashing, but they do sort of ad to the overall "dogma" that another man's body part in your face (therefore, homosexuality) is a BAD thing. And the ads were clearly coming from that point of view (not benignly just getting embarrassingly smacked in the face in a sport by a crotch, arm, knee, elbow) because it included that whole "what would your mother say?" type stuff. I don't think those ads were the end of the world, but I do see a reaffirmation of contempt-for- homosexuality in them.

Ewe, so you don't want any disagreement? That's a fairly curious statement. Naturally you are always right and any differing view is wrong. Funny how the, seemingly, "open mind" is in fact totally closed to any differing point of view.

THE GAY AGENDA IS REALLY GETTING AS TIRING AS THE GAY BASHING. THE WAY YOU ARE PUSHING IT DOWN EVERYONE'S THROAT ALL THE TIME IS GOING TO BACKFIRE ON YOU ONE DAY. I FOUND IT IRONIC THAT YOU DID NOT LIKE THAT ADD BUT YOU THOUGHT THE COMMERCIAL FROM ENGLAND WAS JUST GREAT. YOU, MY FRIEND, ARE A HYPOCRITE.

I find it interesting, though not surprising, that the people who think it's okay to beat up on gay people refuse to use their names. I have bigger balls than all these anonymous commenters.

I thought the Nike as was funny. If you have a sense of humor it is even gay funny. As in - that ain't right - I could have been more prepared or something - geesz - a little too sensitive. Maker a joke about someone on the far right and you get applauded for pointing out those people. Make a joke about someone on the far left and you get slammed for being insensitive.
As a supporter of gay rights, even I am getting tired of the excessive whining.

I am a straight NON-homophonic guy. Trouble is with most of you is you want to sanatize life. Every small thing gets blown of of context. Take the last comment " shooting a possibly gay man with a machine gun" That's simple not true. It wasn't a machine gun, believe it or not machine guns don't fire snickers! And it would obviously depend on your outlook as to if the guy was gay or not.
I don't think the advert was funny. But I don't see why every bleeding heart should jump on the "I'm soo oppressed band-wagon"
I have nothing against gays. I do have plenty against the moaning whinning clowns who think they are constantly being subjected to scorn and ridicule.

Trust me, I live in a very gay neighborhood and hardly a day passes where someone isn't yelling fag out the window of their car. This is no exageration. So as to your comment of feeling that we are constantly being subjected to scorn and ridicule, we are. As to the add, snickers if free to keep on the air, I just won't be buying snickers nor will most gays. Having said that the are free to put it back on as far as I care.

straight NON-homophonic guy should be equally pissed at the christianists who freak out at the slightest nuance of an insult against christianity, ie harry potter, tinky winky, haloween, the war on christmas and don't even get me started on Donohughe of the catholic league and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on

from Theo,
What you may be asking is whether a Roman Catholic who strictly adheres to the specific Roman Catholic faith (i.e., accepts the Council of Trent and at least Vatican I), and whether a Jew strictly adheres to the post-32 A.D. Jewish faith (for the orthodox Jew should logically accept Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah, given that He fulfilled the prophecies), and whether a Mormon who strictly adheres to the Mormon faith, will go to hell.
If that's your question, the answer is yes, they will go to hell, in that they by definition reject the provision described above.
Nuff said. considering that half the country is catholic and only 5% are gay. Why is Theo wasting his time here?
Theo off the 12 step program?

I'm not gay, actually. Was only drawn here because of the clown Besen. And I'm not homophobic either. My only phobia is listenening to clowns like yourself. Self-righteous clowns who smugly shove some trite moralistic viewpoint down the throats of others.

Anonymous, as if people like you don't try to do the same, that's why you come here anyway, to shove yours down our collective throats. You can delude yourself, but you don't fool any of us. You're GAY, get used to it and move on. Why so defensive? You call Wayne a clown? This is HIS blogsite, not yours. Go troll some other sites, preferably straight ones, there are many in that camp who need enlightenment.

Aye Robert, 'tis hard to take you seriously, especially when your fundamentals are wrong. I am not gay. And I'm not anti gay. I am anti highlightening a trival advert. I find it astonishing the depths any group will stoop to to highlight a cause.
Calling me gay is just a diversion. You think I'm gay. I know I'm not. Kinda makes my comments more valid than yours, because you are fumdamentally wrong.Looks like game, set and match to me.

I can't say I agree with everything he says, but he makes some good valid consistant points./////There are other gay activists out there who really ARE clowns. Go after them instead.

Joey you are right it was wrong of me to say Besen is a clown. I happen to disagree with him on the matter. But calling him a clown was wrong. He's actually very erudite. But I totally disagree with him regarding the Snickers advert. For me it's just more politically correct madness. You suggest I go after other gay activists? Fair comment if I actually knew any! I only dropped in to this page having seen Mr Besen on O'reilly.
As for Robert in NYC, now he is a clown. He has nothing to say. He avoids the issue. He is narrow-minded to a fault. He can tell the world I'm gay and, frankly, " I don't give a damn" He has nothing to contribute. It is pointless debating with one so blinkered. He adds nothing to an interesting debate.

anon : Nothing annoys me more than the politically-correct overly sensitive gay activists (or any activist) but Besen really isn't one of those. Since I'm aware of all the gay activists, more than you, I can compare and tell you that.

Fair comment Joey, Besen does appear to be fair minded. He appears to present rational arguement. I just happen to believe he was doing a disservice to the gay movement regarding this advert. Be it a gay, disabled, racist, or religious issue, I feel a lot of noise is made that is often way over the top to the seriousness of the problem.
We live in a diverse society and most views deserve to be respected. Obviously not necessarily agreed with. That's what makes life interesting!

anonymous, I don't avoid anything. If anyone is avoiding anything, seems its you, pal. You can't even admit you're gay. Why don't you spend your precious time on straight blogsites, there is much more work for you to do there. You can deny it all you like, you don't fool anyobody. Why do you spend so much time here anyway if you're so straight? I think its beyond prurient interest.Same goes for Theo and others using different screen names to vent. They're that cowardly, they can't even admit who they really are. They even lie about their sexual orientation. Speaks volumes.

Robert, your constant jibes don't bother me in the slightest. You are of course quite right I am gay ( to all the rest of you I'm not but one has to amuse this NY clown ) As I have explained I happened upon this as a result of watching Mr Besen. I make comments on many blogs and forums. For anyone who gives a hoot, my name is Neil.
I simply posted my thoughts upon the advert saga. To the best of my knowlegde there are no rules about ones sexual leaning as to where on can post opinions.
The only thing that speak volumes is your childlike insistance on rabbiting on about me being gay. The sadest thing of all is that I actually acknowledge your comments. Believe me RobertI couldn't care what your opinion is. You have nothing to contribute. Robert you actually remind me of a very fine quote. I get a mental image of you when I read it.
"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."
Not to worry I will be out of here soon. I am heading to my native Scotland tomorrow. Going to my brothers daughters wedding and also picking up some fine Scottish crap to sell on my web page. If interested in a kilt for a baby or mini bagpipes let me know. Byeeeeee
