Mounting evidence - although far from conclusive - casts doubt on John McCain's "cross in the dirt" story in the Vietnam prison camp. Did he concoct the story or lift it from another author? I am making no judgments - at this point. However, it is worth checking out and weighing the accumulating evidence. Let's just keep an open mind and a watchful eye on this story and see how it develops.

Sounds like plagiarism to me. This inept man will say or do anything to caught the evangelical vote, but then so is Obama in some ways with his stand on opposing same-sex marriage.

The Obama campaign is sinking fast:

http://meganmcardle.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/obama_and_the_netroots_looking.php

"Megan's Fourth Law of Politics: The party that starts looking for implausible and unprovable conspiracy theories about the opposition candidate is in trouble."

The "strange coincidence" of McCain's cross-in-the-dirt story is not necessarily any such thing, it merely demonstrates the extreme unfamiliarity of Democrats with Christian history and the frequency with which atheist Communists have persecuted Christians over the last 100 years.

Due to the long history of Christian persecution, which dates back to Imperial Rome, communication between Christians is believed to have long involved such non-verbal interactions; the famous fish symbol is said to have been used in such a way.

Sadly, there is little doubt that there are Christians in North Korean camps drawing crosses in the dirt even today. Not all Christians have the courage to speak out against evil rulers and accept martyrdom, but it's not surprising that even the most fearful and compromised believer would take action to tell a suffering fellow Christian that he is not alone in his darkest hour.

Obama was already sliding in the polls and he has really looked terrible this week. If he continues to head south over the next month, expect whispers of a pro-Hillary uprising to start being floated in the press.

This is a bizarre feeding-frenzy of increasing desperation. First Democrats suggest that Senator McCain somehow had an unfair advantage at the Saddleback forum. The reason for this suggestion? Well, how else could McCain offer better answers to the same questions that Obama, such as who will influence his administration.

Now Democrats are alleging that McCain stole an anecdote about the guard at the Hanoi Hilton who drew a cross in the dirt. This allegation is made of course without any evidence. It's not like McCain's fellow soldiers are saying the story is a fabrication.

And near as I can tell, the bloggers most aggressively peddling the story haven't done any actual reporting on the matter.

Behold the sense of panic by Democrats. Why the panic? On reason is because Obama was badly outclassed at the Saddleback forum in front of millions of viewers.

But only Democrats could, at this moment, come up with this stupid attack on McCain concerning the cross. They're actually focusing more attention on John McCain's stint at the Hanoi Hilton!

Maybe the Obama campaign will offer up as a counterpoint Obama's supremely courageous opposition to the Iraq War while on the front lines of the Illinois state legislature. By all means, let's have Democrats continue their campaign to minimize McCain's service in Vietnam. That should work wonders for Obama!

I wasn't very hopeful about that forum at the church in California that McCain and Obama took part in. But the event actually turned out to be worthwhile. The evangelical pastor's questions ranged from the deeply personal to the overtly controversial. He often asked questions that made it difficult for the candidates to avoid giving direct and revealing answers. And he let the candidates speak for themselves. I thought he actually did a good job.

I found it interesting that on the topic of same-sex marriage, Obama defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Then he suggested that the matter should be left to the states. But he has publically opposed Proposition 8 on the California ballot - which itself is a citizen-initiated referendum that would define marriage as a heterosexual union.

So Obama appears awfully confused on the subject, and it came across to the millions who watched the event on CNN.

In the American system of politics, nobody running for the presidency, with the exception of the brave and wonderful Dennis Kucinich would dare to come out and say they support marriage equality. It would not be politically expedient either. Once elected, Obama may well change his mind.

It would be wise to dredge up McCain's disgraceful adulterous lifestyle, while trying to hide behind a large family. Already we are seeing what a lously person his wife is, with her disowned half sisters and such. She and McCain made their wealth off beer guzzleing. You'd think the evangelicals would take issue with that.hmmm
