The more I watch this campagin the more I am convinced that Obama hasn't a prayer. Hillary would have fared even worse, I think. The problem is that the Republicans made a smart stelth move by nominating a candidate that is socially conservative, locking up the evangelical vote and enough of a mixed bag on economic issues to allow almost anyone to have hope that they can sway them to their side. Being a POW and a hawk he secures the votes of the security moms. It is also difficult to critize him because of his service to his country. It is hard to find an opening for democrats to attack this guy in an effective way. Even the age thing doesn't work against him,having a mother that is in her late 90's.

I agree with Robert. There is plenty to 'get' McCain and the republicans on, but the Democrats have to stop fighting like it's an 18th century duel and fight like what the GOP has turned it into: a filthy, slimy, cutthroat, honorless, barroom brawl. I've heard that Obama has to tread a fine line here so that he does not come across as an 'angry black man' (scary to white voters), but this is where Biden can shine and do the job for him.
