Earlier in the year, Alan Chambers, the head of Exodus International, promised that his organization was done with politics.
When I questioned if this was true, his deputy, Randy Thomas, blasted me for not believing Chambers. So, Truth Wins Out wrote a press release praising Chambers for vowing to no longer lobby to take away our rights. Well, he lied. No surprise, really.
The first sign that Chambers went back on his flimsy word was when his organization refused to quit the ultra-political Arlington Group. Now, the slippery sexual engineer is lobbying to change the constitution in California to prohibit marriage equality. Chambers' bizarre reason for opposing marriage is that if he were able to marry a man, he never would have met his wife. So, the only way he can remain with his wife, apparently, is to heap so much discrimination on the gay community that coming out is less desirable.
It is increasingly difficult to deal with Chambers. He is just so truth challenged that his word is essentially meaningless. It is like talking to a spoiled child who gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar, but claims he is innocent because the cookie jar is actually a vase. Check out his pathetic testimony in California:
As a former christian radio announcer, a graduate of a Nazarene University,a graduate of an exgay ministry, and a current member of the Metropolitain Community Church, I am greatly questiong the assumption that a person must leave a gay identity and lifestyle when they come to Christ. A large number of people in my local glbt community have been committed christians in their faith communities of origin before coming out.I am very uncomfortable with the us/them dicotomy the speaker is attempting to establish, when it has been my experience especially at MCC that there is a considerable overlap between the christian community and the glbt community. Thanks for posting this, Ron Boehlke, Boise, ID

Hey Wayne, I remember in Anything But Straight you wrote about a guy who was "ex-gay" and speaking at your college or something, and then it was either you or somebody else who asked, "then how come you still look gay??" and that really upset him. Because for ex-gays, image is everything - you have to appear hetero. In other words, not a "pansy" or "faggy" boy. Talk about Chambers and Randy failing the macho test!! Chambers might be able to pass for straight in certain PHOTOS. Randy doesn't even have a prayer. That guy looks like the biggest queen - I mean, I have terrible gaydar, but CRIMONY. Talk about stereotypes. I don't think he'll ever be married (to a woman). And you know what if those two were just sexually honest and say "yes I'm still very much SSA" but then just be celibate, and stay out of my bedroom, there'd be no problem on my end.

These ex-gays seem to be incapable of honesty on any level. Most of all to themselves.
And yes, appearance is everything to these people. If they look straight, they are straight. What a crock this lot is. It's sad to see people so deluded. And yes, Emily, those guys don't look straight to me either. Truly sad.

Great post Wayne, as always. I am so hoping and yes, praying, that Cali goes the way of Canada and finally puts to rest this nonsense. I've said it before, we've had gay marriage here for almost 5 years and I have yet to see the sky fall, dogs doing cats, fire and brimstone falling from the sky and oh yes, straights are still marrying, go figure. Keep up the good fight!

It's hard for me to see that if I married someone of the same sex would destroy a heterosexual marriage, unless 1 of the straight members has an affair with a same sex partner which would seem that he/she was in the closet all along. or possibly Bisexual

What a consummate liar! I remember Wayne's post of about 2-3 months ago when Chambers did indeed say that they had "heard from the Lord" instructing him to get out of anti-gay politics, something he pledged to do. And now he shows up trying to ban marriage in Cali?? This man has absolutely no character; no sense of truth in him whatsoever.
Was he lying when he said that he "heard from God" or is he disobeying God now that he's gone back on his sacred promise? Alan Chambers is a pathetic, obvious fraud. But then again, I guess I've always known this; in order for an obviously gay man to consider himself heterosexual, he must brainwash himself by engaging in a mountain of lies and obfuscations...especially with that persistent lisp. Ah, some things just don't change, do they, Alan?

This man wouldn't know the truth if it hit him upside the head! The "truth" is whatever Alan Chambers wants it to be.
I've noticed this about fundamentalists--they will lie and cheat, will do anything to advance their agenda.

Why does Exodus still exist when its two founders fell in love, left the ministry, and had a same sex commitment ceremony?
