Time Magazine wrote a feature article today about the influence of big gay money in politics.
My take: The money is needed to counter the sugar daddies of the right - the major foundations and the churches. As gay people, we do not have wealthy religious institutions - such as the baptists, Mormons and Catholics (Think Pope Mobile rich). We rely on generous individuals to make up the difference.
My main beef is calling these generous donors "a mafia," when they are just a bunch of benevolent billionaires. Why doesn't Time call it the "Mormon Mafia" when they give millions of dollars to defeat marriage in California?

Wayne, I totally concur. Would they call the Knights of Columbus the Catholic Mafia? This group donated more than $1 million to support proposition 8 in California. I suspect its a not for profit group and if it is, another one we should add to the list for removing their tax-exempt status and exposure as another hate group.

Wayne, you are so on point here. What more can the christo-fascists do? They've committed every vile act, both physical and psychological, to get rid of us and damned if we aren't still here. Now this, we're a mafia!?!
Oh, by the by, has anyone thought what the real mafia might think of this.....wouldn't that be delicious irony.

My yes, the irony would probably be delicious were the REAL Mafiosi to weigh in.
You see these battles within the churches and all the monies spent by all these right-wing hate groups. It's OK when they do it, but when some of us do it, we're characterised as a "mafia".
I would have written time a letter to the editor, but all reading it did was to get my blood pressure up and I frankly want to be around to see the day we have marriage equality.
