Log Cabin Republican-types often whine that they are disliked in the GLBT community. It is because they have a martyr complex and work against the community's best interests. They often seem to have more issues than a New York magazine stand and live in a surreal world that hardly reflects reality. They believe that if they are just nice enough and smile at those who loathe them, they will be accepted.
While on the Internet, I stumbled upon the ultimate gay Republican - Casey - who supports Prop 8., which would prohibit gay people from marrying in California. If you ever want to meet the perfect, self-loathing, self-absorbed, unpleasant, victim-mongering, bitter gay Republican - check out his website. Apparently, he thinks he is the only decent gay person in America. According to Log Cabin Casey:
When I wake up in the morning, I am eager to start my day with a smile on my face. When I walk down Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, or Hillcrest in San Diego, or the Castro in SF, I might be the only person in the vicinity with a real smile on his face and who is proud of what he has achieved and what he stands for and who is genuinely happy and content with who he is as a person, but that's just fine with me. I can only control my own attitude and nobody else's. If all of these other gay men want to be bitter and miserable their entire lives, and deprive themselves of the happniess and fulfillment they could and would otherwise achieve, then they in the end are in reality more "homophobic" than any straight person. However, that is really beyond my control, as I can only decide my attitude and my beliefs and no one else's. Believe me, I had to resign myself to that fact a long time ago, but it sure lifted a burden from my shoulders that in hindsight, I never even needed to assume in the first place!
Wow, what a brave hero! What a fantastic martyr! What a shining light in the great cavern of darkness!
I've never done this before, but I am going to recommend Casey go to the "ex-gay" ministries. It is clear that he would be much happier and he could cavort with "good folk" like himself. Clearly, as the only good homosexual in America, Casey should jump ship and be with people he finds more appealing. Or, he could simply stare at himself in the mirror admiringly for hours at a time. But, he probably already does that, as it is clear that he is in love with himself.
Thanks Casey for being a model gay Republican.

See, jon, you're like some of my friends who would get a kick out of it. But personally I just don't have the twisted sense of humor some other people do (at least not the same kind of twisted humor), because reading this kind of self-hatred just pisses me off, I don't find it entertaining, I find it pathetic and disheartening and it makes me feel dirty after I've read it.
Hey Eshto, I confess to a morbid sense of humour. I took a peek and yeah, turns out he's more pathetic than entertaining. Your first thought was correct, he's sounds lonely when you read his stuff, tragic, truly tragic. I guess because I'm in Canada, I just don't get it. That's ok though, most republicans think we're all socialist and communists anyway. As we say in Montreal, "C'est la vie"

It's amazing to me that any gay man could bristle at the fact, as these types do, that most gay men and women flock to the party that welcomes and accepts them while battling a party that has been so downright disgusting and despicable towards gay and lesbian Americans for DECADES.
One brief example: There are married gay couples in MA and CA, and soon in CT. Despite this, Sarah Palin openly bragged about her support for the "Federal Marriage Amendment" last week. I found that so offensive; here are these married couples in MA and CA who have to hear the Republican nominee for VP saying that she's going to work to nullify their marriages.
According to Casey, WE'RE the ones who are in the wrong for objecting to that; WE'RE wrong for being offended; WE'RE wrong for demanding respect and equality from a party that has embraced the bigotry of the ignorant to win their votes.
Obviously, this man is used to abuse; perhaps he had abusive parents and is, as an adult, simply latching onto the psychologically sadomasochistic practice of embracing a party that essentially calls him a pervert. That's a crying shame, because in doing so, he has embraced his abuser; it is the ultimate Stockholm Syndrome.

Ben, it wouldn't surprise me. Many gay republicans want proposition 8 to pass, it really doesn't bother them. Equality has NEVER been a top priority for any gay republican. They are only interested in the status quo, preservation of wealth, possessions, employer-based health insurance (they're mostly all against universal health care), national security, fiscal conservatism but our equality can wait and is expendable at any cost. Why do you think we're never mentioned at any GOP convention, and they claim the GOP under McCain is now the party of inclusion, since when? I bet you there is a far larger percentage of closeted republican gay men than in any other party and is it any wonder?

I went to his site, and I feel rather soiled, it has to be said. I have said it often, and I will say it again -- the Log Cabin Republicans are the equivalent of Jews for Hitler, furry animals for Sarah Palin, human rights supporters for Stalin, etc. Jon is right about self-aggrandizing twit. Wayne is right that the self-aggrandizing twit would be better off at an ex-gay outfit (and Wayne, BTW, finished your book on the matter -- I am bowled over by its excellence, and I hope you won't mind my telling everyone to find a copy of "Anything But Straight" by Wayne Besen, reading it, and giving copies to friends and relatives for Christmas). I mean, honestly. How disgraceful can someone possibly be? And then brag about how proud he is that most gay men denounce him. Sheesh!

Mr. Besen, Not that I think it will help much, given your current distain for Log Cabin Republicans, but I just wanted to make a point of distinguishing myself (I am the Casey, Casey Pick, who has worked in the LCR national office, posted to the Log Cabin blog, and who is currently grassroots director of "Republicans Against 8") from this particular individual. Personally, I share your disgust with his position, and I really did not want somebody to take the step of googling "Casey log cabin" and conflating the two of us. Thank you for your work - though we may disagree on some things, I've been a supporter of ex-gay watch for quite some time. Best and God bless.

I have to concur with two others, this blog seems like a hoax of some sort. What kind of gay person uses the term "gay lifestyle" and "homosexual agenda?" maybe someone who hasn't really lived life as a gay person.

This person, whoever she/he is, is truly a wonderful example of why I would not be a Republican for ANYTHING. How on earth a gay person can support something that will try to nullify out loving, monogamous marriages is beyond me. I would liken it to a Jew wanting to join the Nazi party.
LCRs in my book are total hypocrites. All they do is to support homophobes like Palin. Just what do they think that McCain and Palin will do for LGBT Americans? I think Palin has made her homophobic agenda all too clear.

Merlyn, exactly. Why is it that McCain or any republican running for the presidency never acknowledges usever mention us during campaigns or conventions in a favorable light? This only proves my point that the overhwelming majority of Log Cabiners' priority is definitely not LGBT equality, never has been, never will be and not that important to them.
