The incompetent Gov. Sarah Palin abused the powers of her office by pressuring subordinates to try to get her former brother-in-law, a state trooper, fired, an investigation by the Alaska Legislature has concluded. The inquiry found, however, that the national punchline running as VP was within her right to dismiss her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, who was the trooper's boss.
A 263-page report released Friday by lawmakers in Alaska found that Ms. Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, had herself exerted pressure to get Trooper Michael Wooten dismissed, as well as allowed her husband and subordinates to press for his firing, largely as a result of his temperament and past disciplinary problems.
"Such impermissible and repeated contacts," the report states, "create conflicts of interests for subordinate employees who must choose to either please a superior or run the risk of facing that superior's displeasure and the possible consequences of that displeasure." The report concludes that the action was a violation of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.
The accusations undermined the campaign's absurd portrayal of Ms. Palin as a "maverick" and an ethics reformer who has taken on special interests and fought for average residents.The fact is, Palin is a corrupt phony who does not even read newspapers.
Not surprisingly, the McCain campaign tried to undermine the rule of law. It flew nasty operatives into Alaska to wage a public relations (propaganda) campaign to discredit the investigation and to help mount legal challenges to it. Leave it to the Republicans to create their own "facts" when reality is not on their side.

Interestingly, part of the investigation included four republicans. So McCain's strategists can't claim this was partisan politicking. This woman has no scruples, she should resign and McCain should start writing his concession speech.

Robert, she and the McCain group claim that this is a partisan lynching. But as you said there are 4 Republicans, the majority, on the panel. So let's get this straight: it's partisan even if they are Republicans and they happen to censor her! Yeah, right!

Actually Richard, there were 10 democrats and 4 republicans involved on the panel and moreover, this definitely comes off as a bipartisan effort, even better. The party of hate, of course, will paint it as partisan. I think McCain's horse left the barn long ago, too late to do an about turn. His rallies do nothing more than incite racism and hatred, let it continue, it will serve only to do him in as well as Palin. The undecided voters will be turned off by all of it, especially Palin's recent tirade against Obama on abortion. I've said it once and I'll say it again, she's nothing more than a political whore doing the dirty work for McCain, an airhead and a loose cannon to boot. Bad judgment call on the part of McCain, but a blessing for Obama.

I agree. Palin must go. She is a nasty barracuda who has brought much ugliness to this campaign. She is unqualified and would lead this country to ruin. It's really common sense.

I think that all Americans must come to one simple understanding: The Republican Party is beholden to right-wing bigots, and anything that it does is subject to that fact. John McCain is not, as far as I can tell, brain damaged or mentally deficient. His selection of the semi-fascist goof from Alaska to be his running mate makes it screamingly clear that the loony right has enough power in the Republican Party to push one of its own irrespective of whether that is good or bad for the United States. This, in turn, means that good people must do everything that they can to make sure that the Republicans are kept as far away from power (and, most importantly, from the appointment of judges) as possible. I myself have donated more than $1,000 to the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee and to individual Democratic candidates (including the man who is trying to unseat the absolutely lunatic Sally Kern in the Oklahoma statehouse). Money where mouth is, folks, money where mouth is.

To my fellow New Yorkers....we MUST get rid of republican control of the state senate. There are two seats that we need to seize. If we do that, we'll be the fourth state to enact marriage equality. The legislation is drafted and waiting for a vote on the floor, but the senate won't allow it because they know it will pass. Lets make that a reality on November 4 by putting aside any misgivings you may have about Obama, support him and unseat the two key republicans controlling the senate.
