According to a New York Times/CBS poll released today, 85-percent of Americans think the country is "seriously off track." President Bush is tied with Truman for the lowest approval rating ever - at a dismal 22-percent.
A majority of Americans think that McCain will "generally continue Bush's policies."
Game. Set. Match.
One more thing. The poll shows that 59% of Americans think Palin is not qualified to be president. She is a drag on the ticket. Wise Republicans and Independents are not comfortable with her leading America if something happens to McCain. This will peel off more votes than people realize.

Wayne, from your mouth to God's ears, so to speak. If it were not for the fact that such a large percentage of Americans have decided that they are to be as stupid as they can possibly be because of their faith, John McCain's candidacy would have sunk like a rock after he picked the lunatic from Alaska as his running mate. That he is even in consideration is astonishing to most Europeans. And what's even worse about the knuckle-dragging evangelical Christians is how offensive their thinking must be to God -- the idea that He had his last original thought 6,000 years ago and has thought nothing since then should be fairly galling to Him. One way or another, these people must be kept far, far, far, far away from the corridors of power in America.
Karl, you are right. What I find so incredible is that this kind of thing only seems to happen in American politics, odd for a country that has no state religion. People like this would never be considered as election material in western Europe but would be held to ridicule and wouldn't stand a chance of getting elected, let alone last in politics. Truly amazing isn't it? What is even more incredible is that religions denominations here in America are entitled to tax-exempt status yet fund propositions to defeat LGB equality thereby meddling in the political process which they are forbidden to do. Its absolute madness.

Agreed. This is indeed madness. Karl in Latvia is correct...only due to a large population of knuckle-draggers (i.e., religious kooks) does someone like Sarah Palin enjoy a small amount of admiration. It's very telling that the "dumb vote" seems to have sided with McCain after he chose this hick. Incredible.

I have always found the ability of religion to interfere with the political process both interesting and infuriating. We have no state religion, yet the Religious wrong is allowed to shove it's antediluvian views down everyone else's throat.
It is long past time to make it clear to the RW that if they interfere with politics, they will have to pay taxes like the rest of the population does.
