As Bill said, all religion (cults) is weird, irrational, illogical, irrelevant. They are chosen belief patterns, a "lifestyle" if you like, nobody is born religious. All learned behavior along with hate, hypocrisy and bigotry that most cults engender if you look closer. To me its all mass hysteria, frightened insecure people with a lot of skeletons in their collective closet.

I love Bill Maher. Too few people these days say what they really think, and fewer still will speak up and say what bullshit religion really is. It's refreshing.
Religion is a choice, but the right frontal lobe of the brain, called the 'God spot' gives most of us a drive for some type of transcendence in life. This can be satisfied with spirituality/mysticism, art, music, or alcohol or drugs. Maher, whom I dont always agree with, but watch his show 'religiously' ;), satisfies his 'god spot' with pot smoking--which he freely admits to. To each his own, as long as you dont harm anyone else.

Of course, either way, whether something feels "satisfying" has absolutely nothing to do with whether it's true or not.
Which I know isn't something religious people (nor their watered down "spiritual" counterparts) understand very well, but believe it or not, some of us are actually concerned with what is real, not just what feels good.

I hope he grows his own, otherwise he's contributing to drug violence that happens on the corners of my neighborhood. Thanks Bill Maher. Good to know that my safety is potentially being sacrificed so you can satisfy your "god-spot." Yeah I'd say "whatever you want if you don't hurt people" but the illegality of it makes it hurt people indirectly.
I wish we knew more about the effects of pot-smoking, but I know it's not the plant of death conservatives make it out to be but also not the harmless leaf liberals make it out to be. I personally don't smoke anything because I think my lungs are exposed to enough foreign crap living in the city, and in general I'm just opposed to recreational drug use of any kind (including caffeine). I see how it effects my friends though, and it blunts their brain, no pun intended. In fact that's the reason most of them smoke it - so they can get a quick "numbing."
Maher can do what he wants, but he's not the political comedic genius some people think he is. I worship G-d, I love being Jewish and studying the Torah, I love my community, so what, i do it in private, we never try to convert people, and I don't pretend to have all the answers or that eventually everyone will see the "truth" and come to my "side" - so leave me alone to my little "delusion."
