First, the way I can judge whether an article I wrote was any good is by the response that I receive about it. In the case of the L.A. Times' op-ed, of the few the emails that I've had time to read, about 90 percent of white gays are angry at me and about 99 percent of black people loved it. Now ask me whose opinion matters more to me?
Actually, the worst way to judge success is solely by the size of the response. Does Cannick consider George W. Bush a great president because his invasion of Iraq drew millions of protesters around the world?
According to her logic, he is the greatest president in American history. She should consider that the large response she received had to do with the fact her article was illogical and shockingly offensive. This is hardly anything to be proud of.
Cannick is very divisive. She really considers the opinions of white people essentially worthless and not even worthy of consideration. The color of one's skin is all that seems to matter to her and the strength of one's argument seems irrelevant.
Unlike, Cannick, I take the opinions of all my readers seriously regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation etc. I have found that I can learn, even from people with whom I disagree or may be different from myself.
Sadly, Cannick has a very narrow view of the world and a negative, cynical opinion of people who are not exactly like her.

What a racist!!!!!
Maybe she should care about the opinions of people based on whether those individuals are informed and compassionate, and whether their opinions hold any credible weight.
Or, you know, just listen to people because of the color of their skin. I'm sure that's what MLK had in mind...???

This individual has some very complex issues. She values the opinion of black people more than white people? How ignorant.

Stupid is as stupid does.
Ms. Cannick is a piece of work and I find it rich that she would on the one hand accuse others of racism yet blatantly announce that only black opinion is the only one that counts.

Wayne, in case you're not aware, Bill O'Reilly has already been race baiting with this issue. He'll try to characterize this as gays vs. blacks and I'm sure Ms. Cannick will be more than happy to play along.
O'Reilly and his Fox News masters have been trying to divert the issue of Prop. 8 and marriage equality into an LGBT race war for the past few days.
Cannick is O'Reilly's wet dream come true. You're just icing on the cake. Now he'll have a white gay man and black woman duke it out and prove him right.
Are you stupid? A media whore who will do anything to get your pretty face on TV?
Wake up. Don't do a little song and dance for Rupert Murdock.
Don something constructive tonight. Make some signs for the rallies on Saturday.
But, don't go on Fox News and play along with O'Reilly's scripted segment.

Quite frankly, I've been on the show five times and been treated fairly. I'm sure it will be fine.
I know what I stand for and can defend it in any venue. I am sorry you may not be as secure in your values and beliefs.
0'Reilly is already baiting the marriage equality haters on his program today. He goes to extremes to justify the denial of full marriage equality of LGB people with that some old yawn of a mantra..."marriage has and always will be between a man and a woman", something thing that must NEVER be changed. You wouldn't believe some of the callers' comments, beyond offensive. I had to switch off, it was getting to me.

Jasmyne and Star Parker should hook up!
After reading that one rant posted above, it's obvious Jasmyne hates any and all white success, believes blacks create everything and whites steal it from them, etc. She might as well have just said "the white devil".
And what is this thing about "whites have apple pie, we have sweet potato pie". Excuse me, bitch - I'm white, and I don't cook with no fucking apples! Maybe blueberry or strawberry-rhubarb, but no apple pie! LOL
I've never heard of her before, but Jasmyne Cannick has definitely, in my book, replaced Ann Coulter as the world's most unlikable dyke.

Cherry pie is my favorite pie!
And Robert, I used to listen to O'Reilly's radio show on SIRIUS here at work; I too had to shut it off! I think the people who call in think we're still living in the Dark Ages. What a crew! Don't torture yourself, please!

Besen : You don't take the opinions of ALL your readers seriously. Anybody that doesn't tote the (ineffective) politically-correct b.s, is dismissed. (You did okay on O'Reilly, though, I'll grant you).

Wayne, just saw the Bill O'Reilly clip. You sounded and looked great! Very authoritative. By comparison you took on two very ugly, nasty individuals, both stuck to their individual rhetoric. I do think, however, that blacks think their movement has been hijacked by us and we are morally requiring their compliance. But I am with you, it's going to take a lot of communication between the two groups. They are just not getting it!

I believe that dialogue with the monotheistic religions is useless. There is more than enough information out there. The problem with those who hate us is that they believe in "I've already made up my mind, so don't confuse me with facts. They don't "get" because they don't WANT to.
Anything we say against the Religious Wrong is considered "hate speech" whilst anything they say is "defending faith or family values." I'm all for dialogue, though how useful dialogue is with these people is debatable.
Ms Cannick doesn't "get" it either. Just what the hell does she seek to do by putting out that anti-white screed? This crap is unnecessary and serves to do nothing but break us into groups, also known as "divide and conquer". Are there no black LGBTQ people? This vote has hurt them as much as it has the rest of the LGBTQ community. I have news for Ms Cannick: human rights ARE civil rights. MLK would be ashamed of her.
Meanwhile the Religious Wrong simply sits back and watches the LGBTQ community squabble and tear itself apart.
Wayne, you did just great. I really liked seeing you on the ORF.

Why are you so obsessed with this woman?. All you are doing is contribute to alienate blacks and gay blacks even more. It is insulting that you suggest they are to blame for our loss on Prop 8 or that it is not as bad when white Catholics supported it than when blacks did. You desperately need to find someone to blame and, of course, you have to target the black community. Based on what Wayne?. On unreliable exit polls?. And even if we are to believe in those numbers, why target them?. Why not white Catholics, who are the largest and best organized group of antigay bigots in the world?. What do you want to accomplish by pointing your finger at a minority and making them responsible?. REALLY. What do you expect to accomplish?. Do you really think that you are going to get their support by putting your finger between their eyes and telling them “this is your fault”. Who needs the religious right to divide us and conquer when we have gay activists like you. I get your point: blacks are a minority and therefore we should automatically get their support, well, I’m sorry but it is not that simple. We (gays) don’t have to be at the top of their priorities just as they are not at the top of ours. Why have I never seen you react so outraged at the problem of racism and elitism within the gay community?. Why do you think that because blacks are a minority there can be no room for disagreement between them?. It is disgusting that you not only single them out but the way you oversimplify them. Cannick is not the problem. She has expressed her support for gay marriage. Yes, she is obviously more concerned with the problems of the African American community than the problems of the Gay community; so what?. Who are you to tell her what her priorities should be?. And yes, she has brought up her concerns about the lack of representation of blacks in the campaign against Prop 8, and that’s a very valid point Wayne. We as a community are extremely concerned with how we are represented in the media, we have sites entirely devoted to count the number of gay characters and personalities on mainstream media, so don’t tell me the issue of representation brought up by Cannick is irrelevant. You are helping no one with this catfight Wayne. It is pointless, childish and sad. We should be focusing on getting people to our cause, on integration, not division.

Ms Cannick fired the first shot, ash mentioned in another thread. SHE made it very clear that GLBTQ marriage equality is very low on her list of priorities.
If a white person said the crap she said, the blacks would be up in arms. It is UNACCEPTABLE for either side of this to be against the civil rights of either African-Amercians or LGBTQ Americans. It's just more OK for one side to spew divisive crap than the other.

Ms Cannick was the one to play the race card. Why? Because LGBT people pointed out that 70% of black voters voted FOR Prop 8. She's offended that we would mention that? Well, we are offended that 70% of blacks voted for discrimination.

Wayne, i enjoyed your reply that if the show was good enough for Obama, it is good enough for you. HOWEVER i am laughing because i will bet you cash that Obama will never ever again show his face on that show during his presidency. It is highly probable he may not ever appear on that show after either. lol
