In a diatribe against Barack Obama, titled, "Obama's election heals 'white guilt' at the cost of life and family," Martin Luther King's niece, Alveda King, said that overturning the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) "would unleash a storm of sexual immorality such as America has never seen."
Alveda went on to say that, "Obama gives a face to abortion."
Her commentary is profoundly disturbing and her homophobia is off the charts. I'm sure that the late Coretta Scott King, a gay rights supporter, would not be proud of such anti-gay rhetoric.
Coretta once said that, "Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood." I agree with Coretta.
Alveda King, has a long been an anti-abortion zealot and at the extreme fringes of society. During the Don Imus controversy she commented, "Yes, Don Imus's apologies are necessary. But I demand the same from every public figure who has ever said that babies in the womb are not persons.
How bizarre is it to make a connection between the Imus fiasco and abortion?

"Obama gives a face to abortion"
What. The. Hell.
...
And sorry bitch, but a baby is a human that has already been born. Before that it's a fetus, and before that - during the first trimester when the vast majority of abortions occur - it's just an embryo, a blob of cells with the potential to become a human, but which is, in its current form, not one.
If you're going to outlaw the destruction of anything that is technically alive and has the potential to become a human being, then you're going to have to outlaw masturbation as well.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a few million potential humans to senselessly murder (oh the humanity).

This woman is deluded and certainly not a credit to her parents.

someone should remind her that her father would not be the martyr he is if not for Bayard Rustin. I will personally give her the matchstick for her trip to hell. She is a disgrace and the epitomy of immorality.

I mean uncle. see what these fundies do to make things miserable. Either way, the only reason she is being given any attention at all is because of the surname King. Tell her to come and suck my cock. Yeah thats right. I intend to be just as ugly as the enemy.

Coretta once said that, "Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood."
Now maybe that's just the kind of comment that opponents of Prop. H8 should be reminding African-American voters about in particular, along with every other minority.

She is just one of those wacko fundies who has been fortunate enough to have the King name to exploit as she goes on her crazy tirades, but any similarities stop there. When I was in the Pentecostal church as a teenager, I met MANY, MANY people like this woman; self-described crusaders in their own minds for all that is decent and holy, while actually reflecting none of the warmth or love of Jesus. Most of them had a hard, nasty facade and spoke with an acid tongue. I will never forget them; they taught me a lot, although not what they intended to teach.
While many like her argue about the "true civil rights movement," and quibble about who has it worse, it always confounds me that all people who have experienced marginalization, an effort by others to make us "less than," could possibly not understand Coretta's quote, which Robert has quoted above. It isn't that difficult. Sadly, the remaining racist power structures in the USA enjoy it when marginalized communities fight amongst each other. This woman has gone the other way.

I adored Martin and read a ton of what he wrote and said. I won't let this whack job tamper with those memories.

Alveda King's deranged comments show how mind numbing and destructive religious extremism can be.
I wonder how the queer people in her own family feel about this hate.

My bad...I meant uncle, too. These fundies make me so upset I can't think straight.
It is sad that someone coming from a group which has experienced massive oppression over the centuries could think this way.
However I choose to think she is mentally ill as are all fundies. It doesn't mean I won't challenge what they have to say, but I do not see how people of that mindset can be truly sane.

Give the fundies a word, ANY word, and they can make a "Satanic" or "ungodly" connection.
Say "hot dog" in front of a church congregation, and they'll all start giggling like you're talking about penis. This is how deep in the gutter all of their minds are.

I always love how these bigots use the threat of a wave of unprecedented sexual immorality---as if some legislation actually keeps most people from shagging however and whomever they want. It's such an empty and ridiculous argument, but it certainly seems to convince many of the muggles out there.

Excellent point Riverwolf, I'm surprised I never thought of that before. Just shows how preposterous their rhetoric is.
