After years of posing as "Mr. Values" and making a career out of supposed moral superiority, Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) is resigning from a key post after admitting an affair with a staffer. The woman with whom Ensign had the affair, Cynthia Hampton, the former treasurer of Ensign's political committees, came forward yesterday to acknowledge the affair. Her husband, Douglas Hampton, served as a senior aide to Ensign in his Senate office.
As the Washington Post story notes today, Cynthia Hampton's salary doubled in 2008 during the time she had the affair with Ensign. Her husband got an additional two weeks of pay in April 2008 (two months before the affair ended) and their son was put on the payroll until the affair ended in mid August 2008. The Las Vegas Sun asked today, "Were payments to the Hamptons, documented in Senate and federal election records, intended to ensure their silence about the affair?"
Yet, another Republican hypocrite preaching to others, while not living as advertised. When will the party of "family values" learn to stop preaching and start practicing the values they allegedly hold dear? When will they stop defiling the institution of marriage and allow solid gay couples to marry?
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of being judged by a party of two-faced, two-timing liars, who can't keep their zippers up, but tell me that there is something immoral about my relationship.
This latest scandal is emblematic of the implosion of the Republican Party. It is now led by:
Newt Gingrich: The thrice married Congressman who left his first wife in the hospital when she had cancer. Nice.
Rush Limbaugh: A race-baiting, pill popping junkie - who is rabidly against drugs. Go figure that one out.
Sarah Palin: A preachy woman who promotes abstinence while her own family is a mess and far from "conservative."
I really wish a moderate GOP would emerge. That way, there would be two parties, giving the gay community more political bargaining leverage. But, this latest disaster with Ensign, underscores that the Republicans are no more than a sad joke and a party of pious poseurs.
In case you are wondering, Ensign scored a ZERO on the Human Rights Campaign's last scorecard.

good for the goose, good for the gander. If he makes a living out of persecuting people based on their sexual activities, then i think it is appropriate he hold himself to the same standard. Good riddance. What a pathetic slogan these people are.

These moralizing types are some of the biggest liars around. And it's not just related to politicians like Ensign. Look at the former Miss California (Prejean), who said that she wasn't a gay marriage supporter.
That's fine, as she is certainly entitled to her opinion, but her reasoning, that she was not "raised that way" showed her up to be a hypocrite, because no one who poses for topless photos and bears their breasts for the camera was, in fact, "raised that way." Even today, she continues to lie when asked why she was fired.
I often wonder how these types go through daily life without having their brains explode from the mental gymnastics that must be required in order to maintain such charades. It's truly amazing.
I have yet to meet a social conservative who doesn't do what they want to do as they wish. Nonetheless, when it comes to gay issues, they suddenly remember the Bible and their supposed conservative upbringings. It's all a total crock, because they never take responsibility for their actions; they always hide behind the Bible.

I remember that Prejean telling the media that she was photographed off guard not in the know so to speak. Of course her eyes were fixated on the camera. If i was the photographer,i would have sued her for slander. Nobody nowhere from what i recall confronted that silly thing and her lies. These right wing thugs are dispicable.

Yes, I forgot about that one. She said that the cameraman had taken advantage of her because he took topless photos of her when she wasn't aware of it. Then the photos came out showing her with her blouse wide open, grinning directly at the camera. How do these morally righteous people get away with such constant lying?
After Donald Trump gave her a second chance, she was fired a month later after not fulfilling her obligations. They even revealed her emails for the world to see, in which she wrote, "What are you going to do, fire me? HAHAHAHA!" And yet, she still maintained it was her same-sex marriage answer that got her fired. Maybe she and Ensign should hook up!

One thing I have noticed about many people from the Religious Wrong is that they lie and lie frequently. They lie about what causes gayness, they lie about the efficacy of "reparative theraoy", they lie about being so morally pure, and those who are LGBTQ lie about that, too. And of course, Carrie Prejean has been czught out in several lies--the nudie shots and now the real reason she was fired.
People like this DARE to criticse LGBTQ people and to work against marriage equality when they cannot seem to keep the vows they made at marriage.
Ensign is disgusting. I understand that he is an official in Promise Keepers. That actually sounds right since these jerks have a hang-up with controlling women--their wives especially. It would be just like this jerk to think it's perfectly fine and dandy to cheat on his wife--but God forbit she would do that to him!
As nearly as I can see, these guys only go into the whole "I have sinned bit after they've been caught out.

How the mighty have fallen. Hypocrisy rearing its ugly head again. Isn't it amazing that many of these sleaze bags have links to religious organizations? He has the gall to lambast Larry Craig, calling for his resignation and this asshole says he's staying put?
As for more moderates in the republican party, maybe a few exist but lets be realistic. Can anyone name one piece of legislation they've authored, co-authored or sponsored favoring any semblance of LGBT rights? I can't name one. Why is it the Log Cabiners received no public acknowledgement during GOP campaigns and conventions? What is this "inclusiveness" we're hearing lately. As long as the religious right hold them captive, there won't be anything positive relating to LGBT voters coming out of the party of NO.
Obama too is kow-towing to the same religious base. Where is his repudiation of the recent DOJ decision for starters, comparing our relationships to incest and pedophilia? We're waiting Mr. President.

You forgot to mention that a married Gingrich was bonking some woman during the time he was criticizing Clinton for getting a blowjob (this is not a defense or minimization of what Clinton did).
But its OK, because Gingrich went on Dobson's show and received forgiveness.

The only good thing is that these people are becoming less and less credible with every revelation about their so-called "morality". Fair-minded people will come to the conclusion that these jerks commit adultery and lie through their teeth, whereas man gay couples actually want the rights and responsibilities of marriage.
Keep it up, you guys, you're helping to win the battle for us.

The way to more leverage is to be willing to break the taboo and support some Green Party candidates.

libhom, the 2 party system is becoming more corrupt every day. I vote outside whenever possible ~ depending on issues.
On gay issues alone you have one party wooing homosexuals ~ promising equality tomorrow "if you vote for me". Once elected we get thrown a bone and not much more. The other party in general doesn't promise support of any kind. Once elected, they prove their non wooing correct ~ no support.
