For decades, anti-gay organizations have gleefully pointed to a Masters & Johnson study that claimed to cure homosexuality. It has also been used by the so-called "ex-gay" industry to "prove" gays could go straight, if they just tried hard enough.
In a groundbreaking book, "Masters of Sex", author Thomas Maier discovered through investigative reporting that the results of Masters & Johnson's study were fabricated.
One can not overstate the importance of his findings. They undo the very underpinnings of the so-called "ex-gay" therapy movement, further showing that there is no scientific evidence to support the outdated idea that gay people can become heterosexual through therapy.
Indeed, many people who have undergone such "treatment" claim the experience was harmful and that they were psychologically damaged. The American Psychiatric Association says that attempts to change sexual orientation can lead to "anxiety, depression and self-destructive behavior."
20 Comments:
The Masters and Johnson report also claimed that 10% of the population is gay and lesbian. That number is totally inflated but some homosexual organizations use this number in a dishonest way to try and sway the public into believing that there are many homosexual persons. As someone involved in the ex-gay movement for almost 20 years I have never used Masters and Johnsons work to make the case that homosexuals can change. Masters and Johnsons have been discredited by many secular and religious organizations

Wayne, is a very good writer but at times he embellishes to much and some of his comments are either fabricated or lies. He would be a better writer if he would do his homework and not just shoot from the hip

Dear Robert Seeking Truth or whatever your real name is:
1) Pleas show me the "embellishments" that you claim are part of my writing. I suspect you can't. You appear to be a typical "ex-gay" engaging in lies and outright character assassination because no facts support your patent dishonesty.
2) Who gives a damn if you personally have never used Masters & Johnson's work. The indisputable fact is, the anti-gay and ex-gay groups have used this work repeatedly.
Robert, what you just did is a typical slippery ex-gay tactic. You deny the horrible things that the ex-gay industry does by denying personal involvement. That is as dishonest as me saying that "I have never been mugged in New York, thus there is no crime in New York." Your personal experience does not negate, for example, that Exodus was just in Uganda participating in a conference aimed to "wipe out gays."
With such tactics, it is no wonder the so-called ex-gay industry has such an awful reputation for dishonesty and deceit.
3) Why don't you and just be honest. You and others of your ilk have a real beef with me because I:
-- photographed your leader, John Paulk, in a gay bar.
-- caught your other leader, Michael Johnston engaging in orgies.
-- Wrote a book exposing such lies.
-- Tell the stories of real people harmed by ex-gay therapy and ministries. I also interview their spouses who have had their lives ruined, thanks to marrying ex-gays.
-- Show up at ex-gay events and disseminate the truth through the media
-- Produce videos like the one above showing that ex-gay programs are built on a faulty foundation
-- Run an organization that educates America about the failures and follies of the ex-gay myth.
Robert, instead of admitting your true motivation, you engage in personal attacks. You do so because you and other so-called "ex-gays" have nothing concrete or real to stand on. All you are left with is distortions and smear campaigns.

Robert "seeking the truth" Hall: Those who really seek the truth will follow it no matter where it leads. As we all, including yourself, know, the idea that any "ex-gay" program can transform someone from being gay into a heterosexual is plain nonsense. The ex-gay ministries say this themselves, that their promised "change" is merely in how they live openly, not an elimination of same-sex attraction.
(I can't believe we are still having this ridiculous discussion in the year 2009!)
Ex-gay ministries instruct gay people on how to go back into the closet; there is certainly nothing remarkable about that sordid deed. As for Wayne, please name anything he has said which qould qualify as a "lie." Wayne surely isn't perfect and probably makes as many mistakes as the rest of us, but I have never seen him knowingly lie. I look forward to your response.

Why is it that when confronted with the fact that the ex-gay movement has been founded on lies, do those like Robert, seeking the truth Hall resort to calling us liars. I suspect the source of Robert's anger at Wayne is because Wayne caught a couple of ex-gay leading lights in delecto flagrante.
WTF?! Even many of the leading lights of this pernicious "therapy"nhave opted out--that should tell these other people something. Nope, they'll stay in denial until their final breath because they are in denaial as to their nature. In the meantime, they put down LGBTQ peopke for living honest, authentic, open life.
BTW what is a supposedly happy, well-adjusted "ex-gay" doing trolling LGBTQ blogs?

Robert, if you can prove ex-gay ministries can convert a gay orientation to a straight one, then prove the reverse. Why aren't we seeing any of the evidence in the scientific journals, where is the documented research? Do they include any of the major experts on sexuality as observers? You're in denial and a total fraud as are the ministries you shill for.

Robert seeking the truth, Hall: ALL of your comments are fabricated so you are not one to speak at all. By the way, Jesus was openly homosexual and crucified for it.

Merlyn, he seeks to help us find the "truth" as well, lol.
Robert, orientation can't be changed. But, you can change. Seek the truth ~ you are gay. Your friends working with you are gay. Expose the ex-gay movement and start helping people find the truth.
Robertseekingthetruth, you've come to the right blog for the truth :)
I try to read as much as possible and keep an eye out for those views that are often held. I figure that if a lot of people are saying the same thing, it’s reasonable to think there may be some truth in it. business loan
