After speaking at the Campus Progress National Conference in Washington, DC, on July 8, the former president was asked if he supported same-sex marriage. Clinton, in a departure from past statements, replied in the affirmative.
"I'm basically in support."
The former president joins a string of prominent Democrats who have recently switched their position on the issue, including former Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean, New York Senator Charles E. Schumer, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd.
It seems to me, that Obama may be the last Democrat to run for President who gets GLBT support, yet is not in favor of equal marriage rights. As more mainstream Democrats step out front, the days of opposition appear numbered. Any serious candidate who wants to secure the nomination in the future must be for true equality.

Bill Clinton is a woosie. He has caved in to the pro-gay rhetoric. The guy never had a backbone...never will. The man is clueless about sex. Anyone who uses a cigar to "turn on" a female intern has no right to make his feelings known about same-sex marriage. Anyone who is an adulterer should have no say about marriage of two homosexuals. Worse yet, if Wayne Besen listens to a guy like this, he makes himself out to be a fool. Wayne needs to find more credible people to support same-sex marriage. Clinto is a joke.

One more thing....President Obama has done more to promote same-sex marriage than any president ever has. Any gay person who thinks he has not lived up to his campaign promises ought to have his head examined.

For the Truth, would you care to elaborate on what all he has done for the GLBTQ people of this country?

For the "truth", your comment about Obama is particularly stupid. He promised to repeal DADT, its still here; he promised to repeal the ironically named "defense" of marriage act, its still here; he promised to pass the employment non-discrimination law, he hasn't.
Obviously Obama has failed to live up to his campaign promises - you need your head examined.

Sadly, we seem to have elected a president who is scared of his own shadow. :(

For the Truth....Clinton only recently announced his support for same sex marriage. He was strongly opposed to it as was Hillary who were both for civil unions to avoid conflict with the religious right. Don't give him too much credit right now.
Obama on the other hand once supported same-sex marriage but reversed his support when it meant getting elected. He too kow tows to the religious right and that's not going to change while he's in office either.
Another thing, Clinton as well as Obama are dead wrong when they say that the federal government shouldn't be defining marriage. IT IS when it confers more than one thousand rights and privileges available only to married straights. Gay married couples don't get them, only the state rights. Nobody is bringing this up with Obama or anyone else for that matter. Next time they say the feds shouldn't be involved in marriage, remind them that they most certainly do.

FortheTruth (i doubt it), Wayne wasn't "listening" to Clinton, he was simply reporting a news story which is relevant to this site. And doing the right thing, like giving equality to tax paying glbt citizens is hardly "caving into pro-gay rhetoric". Shmuck!
