The coach apologized, so maybe you don't fire him. However, we do know that if he said a slur against any other minority his ass would be served on a platter. But, how dumb does one have to be to say such phrases in a public setting and surrounded by media?
Should the university can the coach? I'd love to get your opinion.

Yikes.....using the word "faggot" in the way he did. Not smart, hurtful, real dumb. Here's an idea to try to bridge the gap between heterosexual bigotry and stupidity and the LGBT community; Maybe the U. of Hawaii can get a local LGBT chapter to do a "faggot dance" at halftime during one of its upcoming games.

Michelangelo Signorile was talking about this on the radio yesterday. Actually this idiot said 'faggot' *three* times. And you're right. If he had used the N word once, let alone 3 times, he would have been fileted. I get uncomfortable about firing people for free speech, but since this putz did it in his capacity as a university 'teacher', he shouldnt be allowed to continue poisoning the minds of the students. BTW, I bet he uses that kind of language all the time about other minorites, it just hasnt been caught on tape.

I suspect that Coach McMakin makes racist/sexist homophobic comments on a regular basis and is onl apologising because he got caught.
Monica, you are a disgusting human being. Your remarks are: not smart, hurtful, and really dumb. Go away and deal with being a heterosexual with a same sex attraction.

This reminds me of a study that I heard about a couple of years ago. It found that men who go out of their way to act and behave in "macho" ways actually had a lower level of testosterone, on average, than men who didn't feel the need to behave in a "hyper masculine" way. Those heterosexual men behave this way do so because they are insecure about their own masculinity. All the grunting, belching and name-calling is a cover for an individual who is, deep down, a real sissy, and by that, I don't mean gay, of course.

I forgot to mention: What is really bothersome in that video is the college student who claimed that the use of the word "faggot" had nothing to do with disparaging the gay community. Some people REALLY don't get it!

He claims he has no prejudice, yet how is it that he uttered "faggot" three times, something that obviously comes pretty naturally to him? Once is enough, but three times? Who is he kidding? Of course he's prejudiced. Bigots like him are always in denial about what they say. I believe this man is very insecure and inadequate.

I don't think the specific word is the problem. I think the issue is using any word that describes us in a derogatory manner. It's just as bad when somebody demonizes somebody by using "gay" in the same fashion.

Merlyn, maybe the Un. of Hawaii can recruit you to choreograph the half-time dance. Hey, I was trying to make light of a serious situation. The coach's comments were horrible. And yes, he probably makes these kinds of comments all the time. I am glad he was exposed.

Monica, anyone who thinks its a good idea to "make light of a serious situation" isn't too bright.

Monica said "I still believe I am born heterosexual with lesbian feelings. Show me the gay gene and then I will believe I was born this way."
Monica, don't you see the idiocy in claiming that you were born heterosexual and not born gay because no one's shown you the gay gene? Who's shown you the heterosexual gene? Why believe you were born heterosexual when no one's shown it to you?

We as a community would like the world to be more compassionate towards us. I am happy the school's GLBT community has exhibited dignified behavior by showing THIS man compassion in its graciously accepting his apology.

MONICA: You really don't help your cause acting the way you do. ahem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sound familiar?
You are an asshole. I want you to know that as a gay man when i call you a cunt, it means i am speaking of your intelligence. It is supposed to hurt you a thousand times more when i use it because i am defining your ugly heart and mind. Go elsehwere.

Monica I think we have made it abundantly clear that we do not want what you have on offer. You are a negative person and I will not allow you to ruin my peace of mind and my knowledge that I am living the life I was meant to live and it will only get better both my spouse and me.
